Is there a real fix in the works for the problems associated with updating K3
and/or P3 firmware/software? The present solution of having to physically
disconnect the K3 and P3 is an absurd solution for those who have their
equipment installed in cabinets etc. I look forward to a fix in keeping
The P3 can be optioned so you can turn it off from the front panel. How hard
is that?
Nothing has to be disconnected. Hammers aren't required :-)

if the operator fails to follow Elecraft's instructions to
'TURN OFF THE P3 FIRST'
why is it Elecraft's fault the updating fails?

The last Field Test versions fix this. If the change isn't already in the

That's what I do with mine. The update even tells me to turn off the P3 if I

Am I up the creek?
What is my next step to get K3 back?

Disconnect p3 power plug. Remove K3 power by pulling its power plug. Stop K3
utility. Plug k3 power back in and press K3 power on. Do not power on P3. Start
k3 utility and load K3 firmware. Then restore P3 power.

I followed that procedure, but when I press K3 power on I get only MCU

Phil,
Don't worry about the K3 utility polling K3. When you turn the K3 back on
AFTER the P3 is unplugged from power, K3 utility will find the K3 and finish
the load. The key is that the P3 MUST be off, and NOT come back on during
the K3 software load. UNPLUG physically the power from the

Good for you on the concert.
I'm out of options, just won't find the K3
P3 totally out of the line up.
K3 off for minutes.
Utility just doesn't find the K3.
Serial cord is plugged in.
