[Elecraft] K3 AF Gain

2014-07-19 Thread Mike via Elecraft
I know I'm probably stupid and missing something obvious, but when I turn on the sub receiver it is much louder in my right ear than the main is in my left with the AF gain set the same on both receivers and both VFO's tuned to the same frequency. RF gain is set the same on both receivers.

The AF Gain dial can also be used like a balance control. When you say they are both set the same, what is probably happening is you have the balance control over to the one side. Look in the Tech Menu for a setting called SUB AF. The choices are nor and balance. If you are in balance mode

SUB AF is set to nor. I think I figured it out: the Noise Reduction was set differently for each receiver. When NR is off for both the problem is gone. I KNEW it was something stupid. Thanks. Sorry. Mike KD8RQE In a message dated 7/19/2014 5:59:44 P.M. Eastern Daylight Time,

Can't remember ever seeing this on the list: My AF Gain control has lost its stop. :-) It will go all the way around in either direction. There is a barely perceptible hesitation where the stop was, and the control still controls the AF gain, however the loudness I like it at moves around

Hi Fred, If it is an older K3 then it's probably the knob. Contact Elecraft support and ask them to send you two new knobs. If the RF knob isn't already cracked it will someday. This is a known problem with older units. 73, Mike K2MK k6dgw wrote Can't remember ever seeing this on the list:

Hi Jay: First set CONFIG: AF GAIN to HI. But if that is not sufficient you can plug your headphones into the rear speaker jack. Be sure to set your CONFIG: SPKRS to 2. Or there is a code you can send through the K3 Utility to increase headphone level. Use the Command Tester tab. This change
