The KAT500 uses steel panels for rigidity and extra weight. It won't
move around under normal circumstances.

I would not bet on the KAT500 being a lightweight. Those large toroid
cores are heavy. Certainly not as heavy as the KPA500, but not a
lightweight either.
The KAT100 had little brackets that could be placed so as to capture the
rear feet of the K2, so maybe some similar bracket will be provid
*Eric,
Well that answered my concerns regarding placing under the K3/KPA-500
nicely.
Thanks a bunch.

Withe bail in the up position and I imagine the light weight of the KAT-500
I wonder if the trick will be to place the KAT-500 on top either the K3 or
KPA-500 and NOT have it slide off the back?
I run portable everyday and bench top area is very limited so I am in a
quandry as to how I can
If the KAT500 is placed below the KPA500, this combination will have to sit
level on the desk because the KAT500 doesn't appear to have a bale. If the
KAT500 sits on top with one or more coax connections and the KPA500 bale is
extended, it seems this might cause the tuner to slide backwards as
Now Rose can make covers for the various stacking set ups. Two items
protected by one cover.

So the official word is that the KAT500 can be positioned either under, or
on top of, the KPA500. It can take the weight of the KPA500. That's good to
have settled.
Of course, now one needs to mull over what to do if you've had custom covers
made by Rose Kopp or RadioDustCovers.com... Would you
There should be no interaction issues between the KAT500 and the KPA500 when
the KAT is under the amp. We also beefed up the KAT500 cabinet to handle the
weight of the KPA500.
Also, placing it on top of the amp does not raise amp PA transistor temp
significantly for most casual duty cycle use,
Good to know, as I'm betting that the KAT500 is not going to weigh nearly as
much as the KPA500! Placing it on top of the amp, with three fat RG-8 cables
hanging out the back of it would (IMHO) tend to make the tuner susceptible to
tipping backwards. Locating it under the K3 is not an option at
The KPA500 draws in air from the top, and exhausts it out the back. So
placing the KAT500 under the amplifier shouldn't affect KPA500 air flow.

I think the KAT500 may be sturdy enough for the KPA500 to sit on top of it,
but I am a bit nervous about interrupting the air flow around the amp. I
think, during my recent discussion with Eric, he suggested it be set on, or
under, the K3. Airflow is important there too, but not as critical pe

That is the way I'd like to stack/arrange the two in my station.
