You mentioned that Q1 was getting hot - it does not normally. The only
thing that I can spot on the schematic for possibilities is D4 - if it were
reversed, it would place 5 volts on the gate of Q1 and make it conduct

oscillator doesn't. I've isolated it, had it apart twice, checked all
components and pcb lands, replaced the FET even though my analyser said it was

If you are having trouble with both the KOI2 and the KPA100, it would seem
to me that the problem could very likely be at the computer end. Have you
tried a different computer? Have you checked the cable for continuity from
end to end on pins 2 and 3?

About a year ago, I installed my KPA-100 in an enclosure with KAT-100.
Built a KIO2 for the QRP K2. Everything worked great for a while. KIO2
quit working. Did lots of troubleshooting with advice from list but was not
able to solve problem. Put KPA-100 back in K2 & my entire software worked
