I have not done this yet (though I plan to), but I'll take this time to suggest the Hakko 808 desoldering gun (http://www.eham.net/reviews/detail/2978). I bought mine a year or two ago and OMG, it is wonderful. I spent years when I was younger fiddling with desoldering braids and ruining PC
