The solar panned have to go to the charge controller that regulates it to
12 v in my case my solar setup has 12v at 14 amps that os used to charge my
battery bank. I would just hook up to the battery bank and let it charge
from there. Or for field use get a small portable one that rolls up that

I would also expect a certain MAXIMUM voltage spec as well. Most "12V" solar
panels have an open circuit voltage in the 18-20V range. Some kind of
limiter (e.g. zener) would be wise.
