Have you tried using the K3 Utility (or KComm)? If you can send CW with
either of those it will show that the problem must be an HRD issue and not a
fault with the settings of the K3.

I have CW (KY Cmd) working with DM780 here - so here's a quick run down of
how I have it set up.
On the K3 side, CW Mode selected (CW REV actually - so that the DM780
waterfall tunes the right way), I have have QSK set, but it will work OK
with Semi.
On the DM780 side, mode is set to CW (KY
Wondering if the original poster is using HRD Version 4.0 or the Beta 5.0
version. I have never been able to get the Production Release 4.0 build
to work on CW using the KY option with my K3. I just downloaded and installed
the Beta version 5.0 and it works exactly as Julian says.

I finally gave up on HRD 5.0 I was never able to keep it connected to VE7CC's
cluster, It would drop me and then I would have to reconnect and loose all my
settings. HRD doesn't have any options for what you tell the cluster you connect

etc fine and I can get the frequency readout and all the K3 button are
displayed
on DM780 but I just can't get the Keyboard CW to work. I did program
the M1-M4 memories on the K3 and was able to activate them from DM780.

Have you tried setting the K3 to CW mode? DM780 sends KY commands over
the RS-232 interface, and the K3 does not know how to respond to them
unless it is in CW mode.
