I've have P3s sitting on top of both of the K3s in my SO2R setup since
they first became available. No problem with operation. The only glitch
is that
Hi Jim,
Waffle style non-adhesive shelf liner works well for this application. Cut
it out over the speaker or just use two narrow strips. One strip for the
front feet of the P3 and the other strip for the rear feet. Here's a link
with a nice illustration:
Good Morning, I am considering a P3 to go along with my K3. I would like to sit
the P3 on top of my K3 but not sure whether or not that would be a good idea. I
see there are ventilation vents on top of the K3 and not sure how critical
those vents are to the total operation of the K3. I really
I've been running my P3 on top of the K3 for a few years now with no
ill effects.

The left side of the top of the K3 is clear, about the size of the P3.

Hi Mark,
If you look at my QRZ page you'll see the P3 centered on top of the K3.
That's an old photo. I've since added the SVGA option and relegated the P3
to the left side of the K3. While I had the P3 on top there were absolutely
no heat problems. I used some rubbery black shelf liner (the kind
The P3 talks to the K3 using a special private command set to prevent
confusion with standard commands sent by application programs. However
the functions are similar, so it should be easier to add the K2 command
set than it would be to add a radio from another manufacturer.

On Thu,
It would be fine if the P3 could provide a configurable K2 emulation mode to
communicate with the K2 and to support an
appropriate (sub-)set of the exciting P3 functions in conjunction with the K2.
Any pros and cons?

Right now I'm up to my ears with P3 bug fixes and implementing promised
features. But when things quiet down a little I definitely want to
modify my K2 to add IF output and work on implementing the K2 command
set in the P3. It won't be as closely integrated as the K3 but it
should at least
Given the similarities between the K2 and K3 command sets, one should
not need more than the Clifton Research Z-10 buffer to bring out
the K2 IF and select the proper IF frequency in the P3. The radio
data rate would need to be changed to 4800 bps (only rate supported
by the KIO2) and the
