Hi
Thanks to those who replied to my mail about the KP500 SWR tolerance. My
friend is also grateful and sends you thanks and best regards.
The best of all to the list, and a Happy National Day !

Come on, putting a 500 W PA into such a small enclosure is already an
incredible achievement in itself (congrats, Elecrafters!) and a matching ATU
cannot be built with miniature, surface-mounted type components, can it?
Let's stay realistic. If Elecraft is really going to offer the ATU in a

For many of us who are constrained to one non-resonant antenna and work

Where did you get the room to put up a G5RV antenna? Aren't they 102 feet long?
I live on a lot whose back yard is 80 feet wide and 50 feet deep. Before I put
my tower up I had an inverted vee array of antennas that were resonant from 80m

For exactly the reason you mention, I'm not a fan of built-in tuners. They
limit flexibility.

*An on-board ATU is not what I need either, the remote version of the

*The trailer behind my motor home has the tower and all antenna feedlines
are right there so mounting the KAT-500 in the trailer reduces cabling to my

Hi,
That's a brilliant blog entry and it really resonates with me as I am in the
exact same situation. If I can hear them I can *usually* work them but not
always and that 5x boost probably would put me over the edge. My main worry
isn't the 2K dollars but potential interference with my neighbors

I gotta say I’m with Bill-N6FB on this one.
I am interested in the KPA500 but disappointed
that it did not come with an on-board tuner or at
the same time as the KAT500… so now I am going to
wait to see what evolves with the KAT500 later on
before I take the plunge. I could buy an LDG
AT-600
I thought Eric stated that they hoped the tuner would be out around the
fall time frame. When I last asked it was in design.

An on-board tuner is impossible with the KPA500 and power supply in
the totally minimalist K3 case. The KPA500 is almost impossibly small
for amp + supply. This extreme compactness of the amplifier will be
the big selling point for many buyers. Maybe the KAT500 will be in a
P3 case.

Based on that, the price per watt for SPE is say $3.9 per watt but with
built-in

In addition SPE understands any make of TRCVR not

The PW-1 antenna tuner is only 3:1 wide so it is not a full function antenna
tuner. Indeed, I use that in concert with a Palstar AT1KM antenna tuner for my
horizontal delta loop (all bands). I don't include the AT1KM when I am
operating with the Hexbeam antenna as that is 1.5:1 or better on
The KAT500 is being designed to match 10:1 at 500 W.

Hello Gary,
I also like to know the time table. Otherwise, I will go for SPE Expert 1k-fa.

Hi Johnny,
Yes, me too. Also I got confused with the KAT-500 which I also really need
so I can use the remote version attached to my trailer and just use a single
feedline to the Motorhome.
I can use the Yagi tri-bander, a 40M vertical and a double extended Zepp for
40/80M etc.
I understand the
Hi Bob,
Yes, you may be right but K3 is a top of line radio with price tag over
$2,000.
A couple of stainless steel screws are not necessary damaging its profit margin
but just make it more perfect.
I think Elecraft is not only just target the local market but also overseas
market. My
Johnny, it must have a lot to do with the temperature AND humidity. I live a
few hundred yards from the Pacific ocean on the Oregon coast listening to the
pounding surf 24/7. The relative humidity in the shack is always between 60 and
80%, yet I have no sign of corrosion on any of my Elecraft
Yes, and the nature of the humidity. I don't know if there is

the 1950s and '60's. When his AM marine band transceiver finally
retired, he gave it to me to

Hello Wayne,
The beauty of Elecraft gears is that you have the free choices to select your
preferred options to suit yourself. I am always interested in knowing the
total
bill of KPA500 + KAT500 as a whole in due course.
Naturally, I would expect a much stronger metal enclosure + screws +
Hello Jack,
Elecraft's practice is to offer you different options to choose such as
additional ATU, PSU, remote control, band data decoder etc etc. As a result,
the initial price tag could be very attractive.
The merit of this arrangement is that you have the absolute freedom to choose
