Great idea, I can see it working without doing it. Should also work nicely
on the KX3.
About the KX3's panel: are its screws self-contained, or are there loose
nuts behind the cover? I don't want to do something stupid.

I'll assume you did not assemble your KX3. The screws that hold the display
bezel on thread into standoffs attached to the control board. IIRC, the 5
screws that hold the bezel (4 around the display, one below the VFO A knob)
are the only screws that hold the control panel in place. Use caution
It's not quite that simple, Arno. Those screws go into F-F standoffs that
mount to the pc board behind the panel. In addition to the four visible
screws there is a black flat-head screw under the tuning knob.
Complete details of the assembly are in the Kit Assembly manual. You can
download it
Yours sounds a lot easier than what Ron advises. How did you do yours?

Just did my KX3. No problems. 72 George/W2BPI

??? No idea who you are responding to without including the salient part of
his note but if it was Bruce, he is entirely correct IF you have a kit that
has not been assembled.
I was assuming that you had an assembled kit since you were concerned about
what the screws mated with inside the KX3.
Ron,
The salient part can be seen at the very end of this post. Sorry if I cut
off too much information.
It was from George, who said he just did his KX3 with no problems, to later
elaborate how he did it: Removed the Knob. Then removed 5 screws. Ran my
black marker around the outer edge 3
