Interesting. I started using the AMP connectors several months ago and find
them to be superior to Anderson's. The contacts are beefier, they are .035
thick while the Anderson ones are .023 and the AMP ones have stabilizing
wings on them so they don't flop around in the housing like the

What name or series do they go under, do you have a link?
Am I right in thinking AMP is now owned by Tyco?

Well, now I see that Mouser sells two different
kinds of these AMP/Tyco connectors. The ones that I am
refering to are the AMP Power Lock Series I connectors

Yes, I already stated that the ones I'm using mate
just fine with the Anderson's.

from the picture I think it can only be used when two powerpoles are sitting
in the cable
Correct, it has 2 pins that go in the hole and a clip that goes down the
back of each end

Beware! This came up early last summer. Read this posting on the poor quality
incompatibility of the Tyco copies.

Once again, nothing beats the original.

The small PowerPole is already a marginal connector for high-current DC
applications. I cannot imagine using an off-shored type where the
contacts may not seat perfectly.

UNofficially, I've been told that they may not be 'quite' as good as
the 'real'
APPs, and that they might not fit together as cleanly, or fit into existing
APPs as cleanly. However, this is STRICTLY hearsay to me as I've not
tested them.

Good Spot!
Farnell also do them in the UK. I have also seen many available via Ebay.
I would not worry too much about them, they have their weaknesses,
especially their tendency to come apart from each other because of the lack
of a locking mechanism, but at least they are a standard now.

The PowerPole could have been made significantly better had the designer
a bunch of them and have a bomb out on the project.
I say steer clear of the Tyco/Amp product. The Anderson product much more
consistant and of better quality.
