Jim,
I omitted to add this thought in my e-mail to you.
There is an alternative to the usual type of single down conversion and
double (up - down) conversion receiver, which is a single up-conversion
receiver using a lowish VHF IF and detector. The benefits of up-conversion
are then
Chris,
To summarize the circuit, the level at the U1 input pin 7 tells the KPA100
uP whether the power supply is present. When the 12CTRL line is active
(this comes from power on in the base K2) at the gate of Q12, Q12 will
conduct from the drain to the source, and R8 and the resistor between
I have built more than 130 K2's to date, as well as all of the other Elecraft
products. Let me build one for you. My prices are reasonable, and you receive
a finished radio ready to play. Get ready for the fall now.

Hi Brett,
I've managed 7th place Low Power in the 2005 ARRL 160
and 2006 7th Place SOSB80M in ARRL DX CW (the only low
power station in the top ten) with my K2 and modest
antennas (using the verticals for Rx and Tx on both
bands).
Hope to do it again this season, albiet with hopefully

Hi all,
What's a good source of good quality female Foster microphone
connectors, preferably with low or no minimum order, and low
shipping/handling charges?

Hello gang,
I've been following with interest the comments about
less-than-satisfactory response from the League regarding
travel and/or licensing questions. I'd like to know the time
period involved. Recently? Several month/years ago?
Thanks, and ...

Use care when working with copper-clad
steel wire (Copperweld). The smallest nick
in the copper cladding will allow moisture to
reach the steel and it will most likely rust
through ... sooner or later. Proper insulators
have lead-lined holes to cushion the wire.
A couple of things to keep in

A couple of things to keep in mind ... RF flows
on/near the surface of a conductor, and the correct
length of an antenna made from insulated wire will

Does the Elecraft KAT100 Tuner's L network work as a high pass, low pass, or
band pass filter?

Has anyone thought of, or tried modifying the K2 Noise Blanker to be an
additional K2 IF amplifier stage?
My problem is that when I really, really need the crystal filter, I am
trying to copy a very weak (but readable) CW signal with adjacent S-9 QRM.
When I switch in tighter than about 1200
They use series inductance with shunt capacitance, so the characteristic is
that of a low-pass filter.

Dick,
Not an IF amplifier stage, but an added IF filter - check out
http://homepages.nildram.co.uk/%7Ebaker/K2_Overview.html to see if that
might address your stated needs.
If you have filter loss at bandwidths less than 1200 Hz, then I would
conclude that you have something wrong with your
Paul,
The proper designation is KAT1, and the manual is available for download
from the Elecraft site.

I just finished the alignment using Spectrgram and all seems to be OK. The rig
will transmit on CW OK. I am getting no output on upper or lower sideband. I'm
using another receiver to listen to the K2's signal. I can hear a tone when
transmitting but no voice audio. Neither can I hear myself in

I wish Elecraft had chosen a little more logical system of model numbers for
their accessories, one that began with the model number of the rig to which
they apply. Thus, K1AT, or even K1-AT, rather than KAT1, for the K1 antenna
tuner. The
