I have overcome a similar problem in the past by strapping a needle to
my soldering iron bit. By using an high iron temperature it is possible
to insert the needle slowly into the hole and causing excess solder to
melt.

As for your questions regarding ESSB and trying to fine tune your
equalization-
For ESSB use, you need the 6 KHz filter installed. Trying to produce 3 KHz
ESSB audio with just the 2.7 or 2.8 KHz filter won't work (well).

Having read through the EHAM reviews of the HW-101 (about 4 or 5 pages)
there seem to be no comments about CHIRP during CW operation, although
the general drift is that the rig is a dog on CW in general.
I wonder if your problem with chirp could be due to a seriously (VERY

Mike, chirp is a sign of VFO instability. It is normal to have a slight amount
of chirp on tube type transceivers and transmitters. The rock solid CW that
is typical of today's phase lock loop products may elude you. So, it depends

Probably what is most important at this point, is that the K2 is over
a decade old design, and your uses of it (data, etc) are probably as
afterthought in the original design as one can possibly get. Have to
remember that single sideband was (and is) optional. That people have
been able to adapt

version 2.xx, the RTTY filter set was made available, so one could
define a set of filters apart from the SSB filters to dedicate to data

that some might wonder why the K2 used audio and SSB mode, but that was what
Hams were equipped to use in 2000 and it works extremely well.
Using SSB mode for data goes back much, much farther than 2000 or the
