Don,
I notice that if I have the RF gain less than full CW the S Meter bars are
progressively lit and it looks like the noise level has increased when it
has not. The latest beta is a work of art and should make folks happy but
the S Meter / RF gain interaction puzzles me. Out of habit I do not
Dan,
That behavior is common for many receivers - the K2 and K3 included.
Admittedly, a few do it differently and the RF Gain will reduce the
S-meter reading rather than sliding the scale upward.
The reason is that the RF Gain works in 'parallel' with the AGC. In
other words, the developed
Holding my tongue firmly in my cheek, I suggest that we can give
'proper' S reports without an S-meter at all.

S-5 - You have a weak, but copyable signal
S-7 - Good copy, but not the strongest signal
S-9 - armchair copy
S-9+ - you are really booming in here.

Hello to all.I cant find in manual where to set roll off low and high for

Any help appreciated.

Good Morning,
After losing this once I am now ready to send it. The report landed in

Hi Again, I appreciate feed back.I know about EQ adjustment and have set that
up some time ago. I want to set audio band width say 100hz at low end and 2800
roll off at high end. That is seperate from EQ settings. I can do that with any
other radio, just never checked with this radio.Maybe I

Ted,
The LO CUT and HI CUT knobs will do exactly that at the IF, the display
indicates the audio response. The EQ is actually at audio, the
bandwidth is at the IF.
If the knobs are set to SHIFT/WIDTH, just tap either knob and it will
change to LO/HI CUT.

Yes, the Orions allow you to set (outside of EQ) both the LF and HF TX
rolloff frequencies. On the other hand -- based on lengthy experience
with a couple of Orions and an Orion II, it doesn't really buy you
much in the overall scheme of things.
Since the K3

I think Ted is referring to the low freq rolloff for TX. The Orion has a
menu item
that allows the user to set the low end and high end for TX.
The K3 has an ESSB menu item if this is what you are looking for. It does

Does anyone make a K3 mobile bracket?

Hi Bill,
I've used mine twice as a mobile in the WVQP (N8Q/m)and TnQP (N4Q/m). It
worked well, but so did my K2. In all cases, I was running QRP.
In both cases, the rig was only temporarily mounted. Initially I had some
RFI/Feedback problems which were antenna related. These have been cleared
Don,
Thanks for the explanation. I too use the method you describe such as S-9 -
armchair copy but the interaction with the RF-gain had me looking all over
the manual trying to figure out why the S Meter calibration didn't work.

The commercial CW operators used a 1-5 scale too: QSA1 to QSA5. It's much
more practical than trying to read or guess the nine steps of S units, yet
plenty accurate enough to clearly tell the other station how good his/her
signal is coming in.
It's fun to watch an S-meter wave back and forth (I

The way I did it was to point at the link on that site and right click, save

then be played back. I haven't listened to all of it but it's good so far.

And to all of you who enjoy the program, drop RD a note. He's done a great

K3 beta-test firmware revision 3.41 (with DSP rev. 2.37) is now
available. See release notes below.
More refinements are in the works. But alas, it was time to shoot the
engineers and get some interim feedback on the many new features in
this revision.

IMPORTANT NOTE
Hi Eric,
You have got it figured out. I would set the K3 to a little less than 1mw
and then adjust R22 on the transverter for your desired output. That should
give you plenty of range on the K3 power control for fine adjustment.
