In the past (in other situation and not k3 vs HRD) using shielded cable for
serial connection and connecting its shield to signal ground ONLY at one
edge (leaving shield disconnected at the other edge) helped me to fix noise
capture. Maybe this may help also in this case. 73 to everybody

Those with DVK's should make sure the key beep option is turned off
while recording.
The key beeps can get into the recording.
Not nice.

Had a little scare this morning. Got up early and turned the K3 on (it was on
17 meters where I left it last night at shutdown). Rather than use the
bandswitch, I just did a direct frequency entry for 1.808 MHz planning to call
CQ on RTTY. The K3 did the QSY but was locked up at that point
I am using two HP 2311x monitors above both of my K3s nd they make no
interference.

I want everybody to know how happy I am with the service and super fast

Not only he did a very professional job, but he took the time to answer

I almost had my K2 finished having send and receive on all but 12,15 and 17
meters. Decided to redo the 15 and 17 meter low pass torroidal inductors
and after I finished had no receive at all and no transmit. Started
troubleshooting and the transceiver, which has randomly come up with 080

be the net control station from western Oregon. If we have intentional QRM,
can those of you with steerable antennas please try to get a bearing on the
offending signal. Let's hope the problem doesn't continue. See you
I brought out a connection from the sub-Rx IF of my K3, today. Not
too hard once I figured out a couple things. I am tapped into the IF
at P86A (or W3). This is the input to the Noise Blanker on the
KRX3. One caution is that +9vdc is present at this point so one must
provide a .001 uF
It took me about 1-1/2 hours to install the new EXREF for referencing
the TCXO to external 10-MHz. I have not installed the new firmware
or tested it yet...more news, later.

Sorry to hear about your misfortunes.
It sounds like you had the MCU chip plugged in backwards!
The info 080 message says that the MCU cannot communicate with one or
more of the firmware chips on the options (and includes the KIOC chip on

If you analyze the header from one of the e-mails, you may discover that it
didn't really come from your e-mail account or your machine.
It's common for malware to infect a computer and read the 'address book' in

Installing the K3EXREF involves installing a connector/cable assembly in the
REF. hole in the K3's rear panel and running the cable under the RF board to
the front panel shield, then up behind the front panel shield. The other end
plugs into the TMP connector on the KREF3 reference oscillator

Maybe the cards are stacked against me, but I would like to go for the six
meter band ssb. My problem is low power and attic location for antennas.
Presently, I have a 66' piece of wire (center fed dipole) which works great

Frank,
Before you consider higher power, get the antenna outside. Even 100
watts to an attic antenna can be problematic in some cases.
If you have no choice for the antenna, then go for the KPA100 but start

I installed it on Friday in about 30 minutes, but I'm comfortable with my

an hour or less. Installation is actually very simple with very few parts
involved. K3EXREF came with an SMA connector and SMA to BNC
