In the past (in other situation and not k3 vs HRD) using shielded cable for serial connection and connecting its shield to signal ground ONLY at one edge (leaving shield disconnected at the other edge) helped me to fix noise capture. Maybe this may help also in this case. 73 to everybody -- View

Had a little scare this morning. Got up early and turned the K3 on (it was on 17 meters where I left it last night at shutdown). Rather than use the bandswitch, I just did a direct frequency entry for 1.808 MHz planning to call CQ on RTTY. The K3 did the QSY but was locked up at that point

I brought out a connection from the sub-Rx IF of my K3, today. Not too hard once I figured out a couple things. I am tapped into the IF at P86A (or W3). This is the input to the Noise Blanker on the KRX3. One caution is that +9vdc is present at this point so one must provide a .001 uF

Frank, Before you consider higher power, get the antenna outside. Even 100 watts to an attic antenna can be problematic in some cases. If you have no choice for the antenna, then go for the KPA100 but start out at lower power levels to see what happens, devices plugged into the house
