The internal 100 Watt ATU is really a fine piece of work. It is quiet
and fast - displaying no bad habits.
I cannot say that about the KAT500! The latter has a habit of retuning
in the middle of a QSO. It is disconcerting, making noises and flashing
various lights and sometimes kicking the

Something's surely wrong. My same setup works flawlessly.always has.
Have you contacted Elecraft?

Hi,
I just received my KXPA100 + KXAT100 yesterday.
After a careful building session. I did a few tests.
Frist of all, I use a 300W dummy into my Elecraft W2 power meter for power
accuracy reading, so no antenna at this point, no PC cable, only the basic
connection.
The parameters in the KX3 :
Corrections:
I monitored myself in my good old K2. If I use only the KX3, everything
works as it should. But immediately when and I turn on the PA in the KX3
menu and I try to transmit, I cannot hear anything in my K2, no matter the
power I choose MORE THAN 10W , the KX3 cannot be heard in my
Another solution for this, at least for CW, is to get a WinKeyerUSB.
Those have two outputs, a PTT and a Key line. There is a variable,
programmable, delay between when PTT is activated and when the Key
line becomes active.
I use the PTT to key my amp and 30 mS later key the K2. The delay
The latest K3 field-test firmware adds 10 and 18 MHz as transverter I.F. bands
(in the CONFIG:XVn IF menu entry). If you're interested in trying this, please
email me directly.

I have a question about the knobs on the K3. I have my knobs on the Shift-Width
position. When I just push the Width knob one time it says HI 3.50 next time I
press the same knob again it says BW 4.00 on the display. I have the FC at
*1.50. Why don’t both times I press the knob say the same
Peter,
EME is all about detecting the weakest signal (e.g. MDS) so I would
attribute this to the low-phase noise of the K3 LO. In fact one of
the determining factors for my to chose it as my eme IF
radio. Dynamic range would be more important in HF where very strong
signals are present at
OK, only when the power asked reach 11W to put in use the PA, every time I
hit the PTT, I have a 75W or so reading on my external power meter and
WITHOUT any audio from the microphone.
Below 11W, everything is normal.
I also tried the PA MODE = CAL PWR. same result.
It should means
Jean-Francois,
Do you have the ATU in the KXPA100. Did you install the latest firmware in
the KX3 1.87 I believe.
I would check the TMP connectors to make sure they are fully seated in the
correct sockets.
If the above don't help, I would contact the great guys at service on
Monday.
I just
Hi All ~ after a year plus with the KX3, I can say I'm liking it
This month is K3Y ~ skcc activity and running 5W I have worked
34 states since the middle of the month. Guess CW is OK !

OZ,
The knob function changes from Width to Hi-Cut when you push it. Turning
the knob changes the receive passband width when in the WIDTH position
(look at the LED to determine the current state) or will change the
Audio High Frequency end of the bandpass when in the Hi-Cut position.
That
Larry,
If you look closely, what happens when you tap the Width knob is that it
changes from Shift-Width to Hi-Lo, and displays the high frequency limit
momentarily. When you tap it again, it changes back to Shift-Width, and
displays the width momentarily.
I think I've got this next part

One option for the K2/transverter hot switching problem on CW is to build a
sequencer which breaks the TX IF line, like this one:

This only works, however, if you are running very low IF power from the K60XV
(or at least run the 10W
I have a Heil GM-4 mike that connects to the K3 through an original microKeyer.
The PTT doesn't work, and there is no audio getting to the K3. I used the
same mike and microKeyer with an Orion, and it worked just fine. When I
connect the mike to the mike connector on the front of the K3, the
Ok I did a more intense check.
I only use the KX3, an external battery, a dummy load and the mic.
The result... When I hit the PPT in ssb I get RF feedback... 2 to 3 watts on
the KX3 scale. I also cannot complete TX cal test using Elecraft KX3
software. Hang on 60m when at 4 watts and a few

John,
The 18 MHz crystal is low profile but the 4 MHz crystal is not in the
standard KPA100 kit.
Yes, a low profile 4 MHz crystal should work OK in the KPA100, it is
only used for the clock to the MCU.

but I don't think the AF Limiter is active *IF* the AGC is active
my understanding is it is only active if AGC is *OFF*
Quote from pg 15 of K3 owners manual D10.pdf:
AGC off/on (when off, an AF limiter
is available; see CONFIG:AF LIM)
