When Eric and I were working on my K4D #76 long ago, he was using the

They no longer make it, but the display was crisp and clear.
I would recommend one something like it at any time.
And
Swapping side bands can happen behind your back. I was part of a
multi-multi activating Kings County in the California QSO Party.
My assignment was 10M SSB. The first contact suggested I would
be more successful if I switched from LSB to USB. I have no idea
how I swapped the sideband. I guess
Indeed the Noise Blanker NB does have artifacts pertaining to received
audio. And I find a more destructive audio path item is Noise
Reduction. The setting of that feature will greatly affect the receive
audio. See page 6, 11, & 27 in the manual for details on this feature.

Since this is a used radio, to which you may not have history, I suggest
you check the installed filters and determine their location and the
required off-set frequency. See page 48 in the manual, "Filter
Frequency Offset".
More details on Configuration is found on page 48 pertaining to
Make sure you use USB for 20 meters and LSB for 40. SSB sounds awful if you
use the “wrong” sideband.
Also make sure the PBT has not shifted, it should be normally very close to
centered.
14 MHz and higher typically use USB, and lower frequencies typically use LSB.
Sorry if this sounds too
A K4 question on HDMI while waiting for my K4D...
If I am using a computer monitor, I don't expect audio.
I am currently using a 24" TV with two (2) HDMI inputs for my shack PC
and I was wondering if the K4 will pass audio over the HDMI
connection?? Having audio to a large screen 4K "smart"

Yes, it requires use of one of the K4
Another example of why having USB-C output on the K4 would be extremely
beneficial. One USB-C cable to the external screen would supply not only
video and power, but could enable touch screen capabilities, allowing the
user to control the rig from the much larger screen if desired. I'm not
sure
It is a Niuto 14" TouchPad. I just bought one and it works nicely with the
K4.

Mike,
That problem sounds a bit like the Calibration of the Reference
Oscillator is off a bit. See tha manual and use the Zero-Beating method
as instructed.
There is a chance it will help, but no harm if it does not.
If you did not get the paper manual, download it from Elecraft.

I thought those were made of unobtanium. How is it compared to the regular
audio filter?

I have a mint condition factory-built 100 watt K3S for sale S/N 11829.
Original owner non-smoker. No scratches blemishes. Comes with itemized

Udo: If it is only noticeable on 20 and it had a previous owner, you
might have the wrong crystal filter selected for 20 SSB. Just a thought

Hi Al,
I bought it used, so I'm not sure when exactly it started. All SSB stations
are sounding like mistuned ones, no matter how I tune the VFO. Sometimes it's
better (less artifacts) when it is a little bit lower, but it sounds unnatural.
AM seems to be fine. Of course, the first thing I
Thank you guys for the responses both here and direct. I have checked my two
monitors and both unfortunately only have the one HDMI input. So, I have now
ordered an HDMI switch as suggested by several. Many thanks for the help.
