Gary,
There are many factors as important as the 2 kHz dynamic range that Rob sorts
his table on. Even Rob has said many times, he has to sort on something so
that's the parameter.
I happen to own the first sample K3S that Rob tested. I also own a TS-890 (and
a K3). Rob tested an '890
From what I’ve heard about the K4D, its advantages over the K3 are in areas
that probably aren’t tested in Sherwood’s receiver tests. For example:
I have heard people say the RX audio is cleaner.
People say the UI is better.
There are more antenna input/output connections.
The voice
The table is sorted on “Narrow Spaced Dynamic Range” which is only one measure
of “best”. To get a better understanding of the overall picture, read
through/view some of Rob’s presentations on his website. Very enlightening.

Hi
I am no expert but as far as I can tell any of the top radios with
narrow dynamic range above 92 db would be fine in most environments. The
k4d was measured at 101.
A few years ago that dynamic range would have been considered fantastic.
I notice that the k3s is at 106. Who is going to
Rob has indicated that any of the top radios are fine. Chose the radio
for the bells and whistles you want. The difference between them is not
worth worrying about. Pick the radio that you like to operate.

Can't speak to your current or future thinking Gary, but...
The K3 and K4 [and some other non-Elecraft radios too] are near the
physical limits for most of what we consider important today. Not going
to get much better because of that, and who's at the top will depend for
some part on the
Reading the Sherwood tests today I noticed the K4D tested ranked below the
K and K3s and I started to look at the data published and I am still a
little unsure of why it scores lower having assumed it would be
significantly better in performance over the K3 and K3s.
Perhaps somebody could point

Elecraft KX2:
If I set the transmit power to 10W on the 10m band, it seems that the
output power is 0W if I try to send. At least the RF power display does not
display anything. Same with 9.8W. If I set the value to 9.6W (or lower)
then everything is back to normal. This does only happen on 10m,
