. With this arrangement,
you have an easy-to-build wideband matching circuit without transformers.
The loss is 4db which can be accounted for when you calibrate the SA.

Hi Tom,
One major source of noise is the CRT monitor. It helps to make the screen
display as uniform as possible, like a blank window or a plain background
without texture.

Hi Wayne,
That's sounds very interesting.
What frequency range and resolution would you like to have in the spectrum
analyzer?
What dynamic range is required for it to be useful?
Other specification?

. This may be hard to see. A fillet is easier to
inspect. If the height of the lead sticking out of the board is critical,
it's no extra trouble to trim the fillet along with the lead.

I have a light blue broccoli-band on my K2 and I like
the dash of color it adds. Decorative, functional and healthy too.

Maxim has a nice family of references (MAX6126) speced at 0.02% in several
voltage values.
It's around $6 but they'll send you a free sample.

It had occurred to me that a cheaper strategy would be to run the rig into
my Heath Cantenna (remember those?) and connect a regular high-Z
compensated scope probe (the probe is good up to 100 MHz) across the dummy
load resistance
experienced damage
once with only a six foot length of coax.
Always short a open transmission line before connecting it to your rig.

the micro does power up correctly so it can initiallize the
watchdog timer.
Later if something goes wrong, it can issue a software reset. This is also
good for recovering from
very rare and almost-impossible to catch software issues.
