This OT 6 meter thread has been beaten to death and is probably ready to
be retired so I have just a couple points and I'll quit. The magic band
has always been there, and has always been lots of fun. Like many
others, I have enjoyed 6M since the late 1970s. I would have been bored
to death if
I apologize for perpetuating this off topic thread ... But just to
clarify, ARRL holds the LOTW certificate for W1AW, so any uploading of
their logs must be done by them. The centennial host stations simply
cannot submit W1AW/# logs to LOTW.
I was one of the operators here in Utah last week.
I think we often become much too critical and forget that the KX1 and
KXPD1 are designed for portable use, particularly light backpacking and
portable operation. I therefore believe it is unfair to compare them
with other paddles and transceivers. I own a KX1/KDPD1 and a KX3/KXPD3,
and also have
I placed my KXPA100 order a couple weeks ago .. the feedback I received
at that time indicated that they will process orders in the order they
are received and that they anticipate shipments to begin in mid to late
August.. so I'm realistically figuring I might see mine sometime around
late
I have two W2 meters and I like them .. But I do not rely upon them for
accurate power readings.. My more practical use is to use my peripheral
vision to keep tabs on what's going on while I'm on the air and be alert for
unexpected changes.
I think the Bird 43, when fully calibrated, claims plus
Mike, to me, the thing that sets the KX3 apart as a unique transceiver
is the fact that it's a multi featured rig inside a very compact self
contained package. It's perfect for portable qrp operation, which is the
reason I bought it. For that type of operation it would not be nearly
as versatile
I looked at the buddipole and similar types, but quickly rejected the
notion ... It looked to me like you need to rebuild the antenna every
time you change bands with those gadgets And that just wouldn't work
for me. I use a random wire with counterpoise with my KX1 and KX3
And rather
I would be interested in hearing from those who are using the new Begali
Adventure paddle with the KX3. What about the cable that has to run
between the paddle and the key jack? That cable isn't really mentioned
on the Begali website, but it can be clearly seen in the photos, and at
first
Thanks for the tip Wayne . I obviously have not given NiMH's a fair test
yet, so will definitely give them a try..
I do have a minor suggestion for the KXBC3: Like others I've gotten the
BAT ERR message when attempting to initiate a charge cycle on a
battery pack that is already charged .. why
I finally got around to reshaping the cupped ends of the KXPD3 contact
screws as others have suggested, and it seems to have solved all of my
KXPD3 issues. I can now adjust the paddles very tightly and no longer
have runaway dits or dahs. I no longer have dropped dits or dahs, and I
don't have
Steve, Ive had KXPD3 issues similar to those that you describe since I
got my KX3 2 ½ months ago. Right out of the box I couldnt seem to
adjust the paddles as tightly as I normally prefer. The adjustment
screws have rather coarse threads and it seems like theres only about a
quarter of a turn
I have the same issues with my KXPD3. With maybe 100-125 CW qsos logged
using the KX3 and KXPD3 I have now accepted the fact that I must
compromise and use a more coarse paddle adjustment. I have also had
issues with random dropping of the first dah, which is further
complicated when a dah is
Regarding portable antennas, I have had success with my KX1 and now my
new KX3 S/N125 with a simple random wire and counterpoise attached
directly to the BNC connector using a BNC to dual binding post adapter.
When hiking or backpacking the biggest problem is finding a suitable
tree to support the
I've used the MFJ telescoping whips successfully with my KX1 on 20M and
40M. Of course, they don't perform as well as a good random wire slung
over a tree with a counterpoise (using a BNC to 2-terminal adapter), but
that option doesn't work when there are no trees available . or if
you're in a
I've had to send a K3 back to Aptos two different times. Each time I did so
it ended up taking twice as long as I was initially told it would (estimates
were provided by the tech support person rather than someone who probably
knew more). I didn't like it. I've always had more respect for
Lee, DX Sherlock is great for keeping tabs on 6M openings:

great maps created from current posts ... worldwide info, etc.
Others may differ, but IMHO I think you're likely to need the PR6 if you
become serious about 6M, and you may also

Subject: [Elecraft] K3 Firmware updating
Is there a safe way to update a K3 through the microHAM router?
I don't like moving
I've been using two B W Model 594 switches in my shack for years. They'll
each handle legal limit power with good isolation and will switch either of
two transceiver/amps to either of two antenna systems. They look just like
the more common Model 593 3 way switch ... a small rectangular grey
This query goes to anyone out there who might be using a K3 with a TopTen DX
Doubler.
I recently got my new K3, and now have it and an FT1000MP connected to a DXD in
a SO2R setup, using prefabricated cables purchased from TopTen, and a Heil
Proset plus headset. All is well with the MP,
