Thanks to all who responded. Eric's explanation resolved the issue completely.
Thank you sir!

While tuning the KX3 I've noticed the noise floor jump up on the PX3. Seems to
do it on all bands. Is this normal? Anyone have any idea about when fixed mode
tuning will be issued in non beta form?

If I were buying multi thousand dollar radio equipment today, I would buy
Elecraft. Sadly, Ten Tec may well be gone before long (acquired by yet another
company in less than a year). I bought some of their first products, the
PowerMite QRP rigs way back when. In the eyes of some, after leading
Sort of related to your problem...
Last week I bought the PX3 for my KX3. The PX3 required a much later firmware
installed in the KX3 than was in it (I had not kept it current; if it ain't
broke, don't fix it mentality). So, I downloaded the current KX3 utility, got
the latest firmware and
I would like for the KX3 ANT button press/hold to select a second set of ATU
tuned elements for another antenna which I select with an external antenna
switch. I have two antennas which need different tuner settings for each HF
band. Whenever I change from one to the other I have to retune the
Make sure the power cord is seated firmly in the socket on the amp. My new
KPA500 had intermittent power on problems that I finally traced to the plug on
the end of the cord that attaches to the amp. I use the 220 VAC Elecraft cord.
They sent me a new cord. The new one fits so snugly I can
It seems obvious to me this new upgrade is not for everybody. If you need, or
want, what it does then buy it. If you don't, then don't. For some just the
fact that an improvement is available is sufficient justification. For others
it may fix an annoying problem. However for most of us I doubt
The widest filter in my K3 is the 2.8 kHZ in the main receiver. It also has the
general coverage accessory for SWLing. My question is this; when I select AM
mode, is this filter in the signal path or is it bypassed? If I were to add the
6 khz filter, would AM mode fidelity improve? I only care
CW Skimmer is a form of crutch. Us old timers still do it the old way, tune
around and listen closely, but keep an eye on the P3 display. Love that thing!

I have the K3 and KX3. I want to practice sending code with an old bug I
haven't used in years.
To verify that what I am sending is half way accurate my idea was to put either
radio's transmitter in TEST and enable cw decode mode. Will either radio
decode cw not sent with the internal keyer?
Apparently there currently is no way to decode cw text sent from the KEY line
on either the K3 or the KX3 vfo B display.. It seems likely lots of folks are
using external keyers with these radios, keyers that do connect to the KEY line
input. I wonder if this could be added as a feature for a
I know how to get the K3 and the KX3 to decode and display text, both sending
and receiving, using the internal keyer and off-the-air signals. What I need is
for either radio to do it NOT using the internal keyer. I also know I could
send radio-to-radio but I would rather not do that. Can
Can the DSP in the K3 be bypassed? In other words, can it be operated as a
conventional superheterodyne receiver without any processing? Would be
interesting to do A/B comparison testing. Years ago I had a Ten Tec Omni 6

It sure would be nice to activate the ANT button so that it would toggle
between two different antennas settings, 1 or 2, when the ATU is installed. I
have an OCF dipole and a vertical for HF. Each time I switch between the two I
have to retune the ATU. I would much prefer to tap/hold the ANT
Good question Vic, do we still call it detection or is it more appropriately

fiddling with the K3 settings, I was sure I remember the LCD display reading
DSP OFF but I could never get it to happen again. At the time
I use two different antennas with my KX3, a vertical and an OCF dipole. Each
time I change antennas on the same band I am forced to retune. Could the
software be modified to allow me to tap-hold the ANT button to select an
already tuned set of component values for the second antenna?
I appreciate the several responses I have had regarding the problem I am
experiencing with the iSDR app and my KX3 . Using the information from these
responses I am making progress but still have one last thing to resolve.
To clarify a couple of earlier issues, my iPad is the latest version
I am in need of advice. I have the newer iPad 2 and am having no luck getting
it to work with the KX3 using the iSDR app. I am using the Griffin external

I am seeing is noise, no stations and the iPad has no control
