What in the world could this posting have to do with Elecraft equipment.

Does anyone have experience with which Pelican case works well for toting
the K3 and the KPA500 to a DX location?

Just to restate the obvious: Do not make the radials resonant on any of the
operating frequencies. Doing so causes high current in the radials and you
end up with a *very low *horizontally polarized radiator.

Tom, K7ZZ, and Jim, W7UG, will have a K3 high power multi-single County Line
Expedition station on the air Saturday for the 7th Call Area QSO Party (1300
Z Sat. - 0700 Z Sun). They will be straddling the borders of semi-rare
Crook (CRO) and Wheeler (WHE) counties in beautiful 70' high Ponderosa
Has anyone got a *reallly simple* checklist for setting up the K-3 to run
RTTY. I'll use MMTTY and I'll use AFSk and I will *not *use an outboard
interface like Rigblaster, etc. I mean really simple as in Step 1: Turn on
the radio.

I've used vertically polarized antennas next to salt water for a number of
trips with great results. If you can't get the antenna right next to the
salt water ground plane, get it high enough that the vertical can see the
salt water. Something that works extremely well is a *pair *of Sigma 5s.
Has anyone been successful with an audio interface between an HP Mini
notebook and a K3? I have a TRRS splitter, but the microphone input side
of it does work. Yes, the audio drivers are up to date. Yes, the Jack Mike
is turned on.
The real question is whether or not I'm using the correct plug
Was talking with a JA operator yesterday who said that Elecraft is getting a
very bad name in that country - not for their product, but because of a
business decision to have everything go through an exclusive dealer for both
sales and service. The problem (according to this operator) is that the
One of the problems with having a radio that is way smarter than I am is
that things take an inordinate amount of time to accomplish what should be a
simple task. I've just spent three hours downloading the latest beta
software. I freely admit that all of the mistakes were mine: from trying to
I also gave my K3 a pretty good workout in the 7QP. 1370 QSOs and
about 220,000 for a claimed score.
