[Elecraft] [K3] New 472kHz LF band
I see from the report of WRC-12 that a new band 472-479kHz is to be allocated on a world-wide basis with an eirp of 5W (1W in some countries). The K3 receiver currently goes down to 490kHz. Is there any likelihood that this could be extended down to cover the new band? http://www.rsgb.org/news/articlelinks.php?id=0284 73 de David G4DMP -- + - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - + | David M Pratt, Kippax, Leeds. | | Website: http://www.g4dmp.co.uk | + - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - + __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

Failing that how about an Elecraft designed, fully filtered, fully integrated, high stability, VLF up converter covering 5KHz to 500KHz. This would cater for the Natural Radio listeners, Alpha stations, numerous high power transmissions used by hams as propagation beacons, 136KHz band, NDB hunters and the new 472KHz allocation. Re: [Elecraft] [K3] New 472kHz LF band
I very much doubt that Elecraft would be interested in producing such a device, Trevor, particularly as similar VLF up converters are already available. My query was really questioning whether the existing K3 could be adapted for the forthcoming new band. 73 de David G4DMP In a recent message, Trevor Smithers tsmith...@cix.co.uk writes how about an Elecraft designed, fully filtered, fully integrated, high stability, VLF up converter covering 5KHz to 500KHz. -- + - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - + | David M Pratt, Kippax, Leeds. | | Website: http://www.g4dmp.co.uk | + - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - + __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
[Elecraft] [K3] New 472kHz LF band
This has been asked before and Wayne has indicated that K3 cannot be extended below 490-KHz. I am using my K3 on the 495-510 KHz experimental band as a driver for a 100w transmitter (4.15w ERP). You need the KXV3 transverter I/F and the KBPF3 general coverage filter for the K3 to operate on 500-KHz. Then you operate at 0 dBm output by entering the TEST mode. You need some linear amplification for useful transmit power. For the new band ERP=1w implies an amp with 25w output. To extend use of the K3 lower in frequency a transverter can be made. Look at: http://www.kl7uw.com/600m_XVTR.jpg But there is another solution: The KX3 will tune to 310-KHz if you have the internal ATU. Wayne wrote me that they have not determined if an external LP filters will be needed, so look at: http://w1vd.com/LPF.pdf Also they are not sure what the KX3 output power level will be (my guess 20mw -1w).
