Re: [Elecraft] KX3 - RCL REQ when trying to channel hop (scan)?

2018-01-05 Thread Don Wilhelm

Mike,

Given that the K3 and KX3 memories work roughly the same, I am guessing
that the KX3 memories have some quirk related to the K3 "Quick Memories".

In the K3, the first 10 memory slots (00 - 09) are 'Quick Memories' that
work differently than for the KX3.

So since you are using memories 00 thru 28, do a quick test - remove the
"*" from the label for memory 09 and try the scan from memory 10 upward.
If that works, it will confirm my guess that you cannot include memories
00 thru 09 in a memory scan on the KX3.

Yes, the channels are all in adjacent men slots, 00-28 and all of these use
* prefix. Are you saying I have to assign CH 00 (or 99?)without the * to
get this to scan without giving the RCL REQ?

Channel Hopping is different than Scanning. For Normal Scanning to work,
you must enter a start and end frequency - except in the case of a Live
Scan. Something is missing from your memory channel 17. Does it have an
"*" in the label and is it adjacent to the other memory slots that you want
to have in the Live Scan?

For Channel Hopping or Live Scan, you store the channels in memory with an
"*" label as you have done. Then you do a memory recall for one of those
channels. The KX3 will go to that channel. Use the VFO knob to hop from
one channel to the next.

Are the channels with the (*) in adjacent memory slots? - that is a
requirement. You must have a non "*" memory on either side of the hopping
(or Live Scanning) group.
Make certain the memory for the channel you start on has an "*" in the
label.

It's certainly possible this is a technical difficulty in my mind, it's
happened before and is increasingly common as I accumulate birthdays:

-- CONFIG-->VFO IND="no"
-- M->V, observe the lowest channel in A and B with *, M->V again
-- 5.332.000/Mode=CW in A, 5.330.500/Mode=USB in B
-- Turn Big Knob up one channel
-- 5.348.000/Mode=CW in A, B didn't change

To the list, others may have set up this way:

In my memory channels, the 5 60 meter channels are set up for channel
hopping, with VFO A being the center of the channel and CW, and VFO B
being the lower edge of the channel [carrier position], and USB.
Selecting a channel then lets me switch between CW and USB with the A/B
switch.

Changing the VFO A steps through the 5 channels. However, it does not
seem to take VFO B with it. VFO B remains on the first channel selected.

I set the memories up with the K3 Freq Memory editor. Am I doing
something wrong, or is this how it works. If the latter ... any chance
it could be set to take VFO B along with a rotation of VFO A?
