Is there a way to make the power meter in the P3 auto scale like the W2 does?
Thank you

Thanks for the help on this.
I certainly can power the P3 from the same power supply as the K3 but thought
there would have been a provision to power the P3 as well as the PR6 from the
K3.

John,
If you have the PR-6 and the P3 (without the SVGA option), then the 500
ma output from the K3 12 v jack will power both just fine (but that is
the limit).
The K312MDKT is available for those who have the P3 SVGA option and want
to power both the P3 and PR6 from the K3 12 volt jack -
Thanks guys.
I guess I'll have to mod the K3 to supply 1 amp.
John.

Hi Phil,
My time proven technique to find the source of K3 or P3 behavior
abnormalities is to blame the computer first. Disconnect the serial cable to
your PC then see if the problem still exists.

Software doesn't age over time. It could be a problem with pin
contact resistance. You can clean the connector pins off and see if
this helps.

Hi Phil,
It does take several seconds for the K3 to initialize the P3 at power up
but if some parameters are not getting initialized it must be a hardware
problem with the serial interface. It sounds like you have already
confirmed that the locking screws on both ends of the serial cable are
Should I get the power for the P3 at the back of my K3? I already have the 6mtr
pre and the W2 connected there, a 3 into 1 RCA female would be needed. Thank
you.

You shouldn't try to run both the P3 and the W2 from the K3 12V DC OUT
jack. The P3 plus the 6 meter preamp is OK.

I note my P3's amplitude readings are about 6 dB low-- that's with the IF
output
switched off. I'm not sure how to calibrate it.
Even so, the P3 gives great insight into signals and their amplitude.
Let's say you calibrated your S-meter to read S9 with a 50 uV input
signal. Fifty microvolts
Amplitude calibration is not yet implemented in the firmware.
As for SSB peaks do you have peak hold turned on when you are viewing
this? You need to be looking at the signals with averaging disabled
(and preferably with peak hold on) in order to see the power peaks of
an SSB signal.

Have you done the IF OUT Gain Mod mentioned at the top of page 5 in the
manual?
I have done the mods and I'm running 00.30 and I'm still a bit off.
My XG2 puts out ~-74dBm give or take a few tenths last time I measured
it on our 80K spectrum analyzer and my combination reads -81dBm on the
K3 with the ATU in bypass and no pre or att. PRE or ATT are correctly
accounted for and
Comparing your S meter lights on the K3 with the P3 is comparing a
length measured with your shoes with a length measured with a
measuring tape, and that should include the fact that your left shoe
is size 6 and your right shoe size 5, as S9 and down are 6 db
increments and all above are 5 db. And
Hi, Guy,
I *think* we're in agreement... the point I was trying to make was that a
spectrum display tells you s much more than an S-meter. That's my way of
saying how much better it is to have a P3. I tried to express my enthusiasm
with
a little mini-lesson in the way power gets
