There were slide rules that included linear as well as logarithmic scales, so you could do addition and subtraction. An example is the Pickett "Basic Math Rule" (one sided, white plastic; instruction manual copyright 1965). It included linear X and Y scales. It cost under $2 when new.

I have a working HP25 out in the garage/workshop.  The battery pack expired long ago and I pried it apart and put some Ni Cad cells in it. I have a 15C in the shack. I had another one, HP41C I think, that failed.  I can't find it so I think I finally threw it away.  Didn't like it anyway :-)
