Good morning,
I have just done a TX Gain Cal on my K3 and 160m came up short (4 watts).
1. Is this something I can fix or does it need to go to the Mother
ship?
2. If it is not corrected, what are the ramifications of not having it
done?
3. If it can be fixed by me, what is
Hi Joachim , How are you adjusting the power in each of the three power
settings. Do you have the coax and dummy load connected directly to the K3?
Trade out the short jumper to the dummy load to assure yourself it is good.
After that, I would measure power with an external calibrated
Hi,
I tried to go through TX Gain calibration on my K3 (after VCO MD cal), but
it fails (see below). Does anyone have an idea what to do in this case?

Hello, K3S. S/N 11532 K3 Utility running on Mac OS 10.14.6 Mojave
I found that running Transmitter Gain utility requires these settings within
K3S Config menu to enable test to pass (with good 50 Ohm load on both ANT1
and XVTR-Out ports):
Transmitter Gain tests:
5W test. requires Config -
How are you doing the calibration - manual or computer? If computer, PC or Mac?
Make sure you have the latest K3 Utility to do this. Recent versions of the K3
Utility had an issue with handling responses from the K3/K3S that caused
calibration to fail. I believe they were fixed on the Windows
My K3S s/n 10163 I find my results are the same as yours as below.
"On 6 meters the relay switches from LP to HP amplifier when the power is adjusted
from 8 to 9W."
"On 160-10 meters I hear the relay switch from LP to HP amplifier when the power
adjustment is increased from 12 to 13W as

I purchased Elecraft K3S S/N 11672 in August 2018. The build was completed in
November 2018. At that time all the tests and calibrations were completed
successfully.
Now the TX Gain Calibration fails on Low Power and High Power on 50 MHz. only.

I am trying to do the tx gain calibration. I am hooked into a 300w dummy dry
dummy load. When I run the test it dies on the 17m band and says:
Tx Gain calibration failed because power readings did not converge to a
consistent value
I really have no idea what this means, and I can't find any
Hi everyone,
I am attempting to do a TX Gain Calibration and every time that I have
attempted it so far, I get the following response from the K3 Utility.
Starting 5 watt calibration
Calibrating at 1.900 MHz
Problem Solved!
I had to do a hard reset of the K3. (Power on whilst holding the NORMAL
button) and then reloaded my saved configuration.
I was then able to go through the whole TX Gain calibration procedure.
Ain't it marvelous what you can do when you read a book! :)

I've not seen this, but your VFO B area is probably showing power supply
voltage when a power level is expected.
Can you save your configuration with the K3 Utility, then perform parameter
initialization (EE INIT) then restore configuration? EE INIT is described in
the K3 Owners manual.

Must I do this for each antenna port?

No you're just able to have the dummy load on either port when you do
so.

No. Just one time on one of the antenna ports into a dummy load.
