I'm working with a series of files (its actually a website that I'm converting
into a pdf, and exporting it from org-mode), and its becoming positively
glacial in operation! And I think that 'wc-mode' is the culprit. And wc-mode is
shown as a dependency in the paradox package-manager system.

contents from word-count please? This is using wc-mode and also in
org-word-count too.

Just a very quick glance at your problem, and in the tex output you've shown
there is a double closing bracket on 'pdflang={English}}'. If you correct that
then your output might be better, I don't know, but its certainly worth a try.

I have a problem in an org-mode file which is then exported to latex and
then converted into a pdf. And the file is the draft of my fiction book.

I've been puzzling over this for several weeks now, how can I get the
TOC of a document, written in org-mode and exported as latex and then
built into a PDF, have just one column of its TOC, instead of what seems
to be its default of 2 columns, please?

I've just learnt how to do table of contents for an org-mode file.
I'm working on one file that is exported to latex and then built into a
pdf document, where I've got several level 1 headings that I don't want
to export to latex so I've tagged them as :NOEXPORT:. However I do want
to include the
