Perhaps this is a very good time to remind all and sundry that
most of the Directives have been modified at one time or another
by other Directives. To the best of my knowledge, one is expected
to cut out relevant parts of new Directives and glue them into
the old Directives. I know
The requirement for date coding the Declaration of Conformity (DoC) under
the Low Voltage Directive is contained in Directive 93/68/EEC. This
directive modifies the CE marking scheme contained in many directives and
adds CE marking to the Low Voltage Directive 73/23/EEC.
For the Low Voltage
There is no either/or choice between the essential
requirements and the harmonised standards. You
must always meet the essential requirements. If it
is found that your equipment fails to meet the
essential requirements despite meeting the harmonised
standards the equipment will still be in breach
The requirement for the last two digits of
the year in which the CE marking was
affixed on the DoC is the 6th indent of
Article13 (6)B of the CE marking directive
93/68/EEC. Note that year numbers are
not called up for the marking itself.
