'IEC' symbol ??

Good People, Is there such a thing as an 'IEC' symbol (no, not the 417 stuff). I am looking at a component that has a mark similar to the CSA logo, but the 'inner' characters of the logo are 'I' and 'E'. The project engineer claims that is an approval symbol. Does this mark mean anything ?
