3D printed geardsworks well for threading and cost less then $1 to make
(assuming you have a printer)
Yes gears are hard to design but all the gear companies have CAD files on
their websites. I just go to McMaster Carr and download the CAD file, do
some trivial mods to make the hubs and face

Greetings all;
Trying to use my email and and a passwd to clone a github repo, I just
ran into a big can of worms. According to the error msg, passwds were
canceled on Aug 13, and they are now useing a personal token. no clue
given as to how to acquire that.

I haven't engaged the gearbox on my South Bend Heavy 10L in over 10 years. My
ELS does all the Z axis motion including metric/imperial threading and is
especially handy for boring into a blind hole. Yes, I still have to look at
the X axis dial and if I want tapers then I engage the South Bend
There was a short period of time that I almost thought about trying to get
the hydraulic servos working with linuxcnc... (it didn't last long as I
really didn't want to listen to the 20hp hydraulic unit running) Thinking
though it I was going to try to run the servo valves with amc drives and

Have you considered a full CNC conversion?
It makes cutting threads up to shoulders in blind holes a lot less
frightening :-)

I wanted to modify my lathe to cut metric threads. But it requires 7
gears. Of course none of them are commercially available. I don't really
want to be in the business of hobbing gears, so I'm going to an electronic
gearbox instead. The stock setup was a timing belt, so hooking up a motor

I do hope you are retaining this madness?
