My jumpers won't be any longer that yours, at 8". If I can find a decent
ground, I'll let the ringing I see on both ends of the wire tell me if
it needs damping. I have a gighertz sampling scope, and know what
substrait diode conduction looks like, and that it is not a desirable
thing. I also have some braid to tie board grounds together. That can
clean up really big ringing messes quite well.

WTH? I just picked it up to check the bolt holes & they are all etched
clear, so I'll have to paste it on the usb socket frames. I wonder what
genius thought that was a good idea? Sigh...

Thanks Matsche.

It could be, but that would take another week to round up the connectors
to make it plug & play.

And whats this stuff about resistors? Sounds like I'd need to cut into
the jumpers and put them in series? And 88's are not a std value, so how
critical are they? I've 50+ 100 ohmers. 1/10th watt. 82's in similar

I think, this is a alternative:

[Emc-users] printing from the pi

2016-11-02 Thread Gene Heskett
Greetings;

One of the things I'll want to do is to be able to print from the r-pi as
I find traceing stuff thru a .hal file a lot easier if I have a hard
copy in front of me.

I have my printers all shared so it shouldn't be too hard, but firing up
lynx localhost:631 disclosed that cups wasn't installed. So I installed
it with apt, and then lynx could function with localhost:631 but some
printers were missing. On checking on this machine, I had somehow lost
the shared attribute, fixed that and now lynx can see everything but
cups.pdf. Just for fun I sent it to the scanners local ip, worked ok.

I'd never installed or used lynx before. Neat tool!

-
nother 4 hours later, some conduit mounted and wires stuffed, and labeled
on the Sheldon
--

The mailman handed me a box from mpja.com. Jumper kits fine but no clue
where to hook them up yet, 12 foot hdmi cable was male on both ends, as
was the hdmi-dvdi adaptor. So I still can't look at a monitor connected
to the pi. I've lost track of which excedrin headache this is. Multiple
digits for sure. Found the correct adaptor at showmecables.com, bought
2 for insurance.

And thats the news from Lake Woebegone, WV.

Do you have a good instruction for flashing with rs422?
Is rs422 working at delivery state of the 7i90?

Sure you can flash the card via JTAG with Xilinx tools, but is really doing
things the hard way (Xilinx tools for writing PROM files are quite terrible
especially if you want to support relocatable bifiles as mesaflash does)

Mesaflash is the preferred way,but this requires a working host interface. Of
the avalable host interfaces in the 7I90 (EPP, RS-422 Serial, SPI), EPP is the
one most likely to be available to a user (Currently most if not all OS level
SPI drivers are so riddled with bugs as to be useless, while JTAG and RS-422
require special hardware)

This is why default 7I90 programming is EPP

PCIe parallel port cards are commonly available and inexpensive.
Contrary to the PCI cards, it seems the NetMOS based cards are the ones
that work with EPP connected FPGA signal generators. For me at least,
Core 2 Duo PCs with excellent latency and parallel ports are plentiful
and cheaper overall than any decent embedded platform that will need a
lot of fiddling to never really work quite right.

Mesa made the firmware open source, so have at it.

That's just the way it looks for here.

No, you can get PCI and PCIe parallel port cards at just

Any desktop PC should be able to accommodate one of these cards.

Re: [Emc-users] 7i90HD programming

2016-11-02 Thread Todd Zuercher
Rumors of the parallel ports demise are greatly exaggerated. People have been
saying it is dead for nearly 20 years, yet you can still buy new PCs and
equipment that have one without much difficulty. The new Linovo PC on my
office desk that was bought for doing Windows/cad work (no consideration for
needing a pp when shopping for it) still has a parallel port header on the
motherboard, even though the 64-bit Windows OS that came on it doesn't support
it.

I've been following this because I think I want to go this rout in a couple
months..

So there is no why out of needed an old printer port interface? That
means finding an old PC. It there no why to flash the card using (say)
JTAG? The printer port is long obsolete.

Re: [Emc-users] Question regarding fuses, line reactors

2016-11-02 Thread Dave Cole
Some higher end VFDs have line filters built in. Might want to check
to see if yours does before you
buy a filter.
