I would say that assumption is not accurate (I have no RH8 or RH9 to check with so I do not know whether they do or not). On Redhat 9, Xsession is in /etc/X11/xdm/ if this helps... On another note regarding entrance: I had a very bad experience with "entrance" causing X to respawn continuously,
