I would guess that E uses the same API as the xrandr command (ie, the
xrandr API) -- my xorg.conf and xrandr output don't match up either,
so I would assume it an xorg / xrandr issue rather than an xorg / e one

Sure it's not too fast on my 266MHz box with no video acceleration, but
it works, and it's fast enough to not be *painfully* slow
