Re: [Mozilla Enterprise] local domains seen as search engine words?

2020-10-26 Thread Luca Manganelli
At last! The group policy was not working because there was a setting in
the "Preferences (Deprecated)". You MUST remove all settings in this
deprecated section, otherwise Firefox will ignore in the new "Preferences"
section.

Re: [Mozilla Enterprise] local domains seen as search engine words?

2020-10-22 Thread Luca Manganelli
Hello Mike,

I'm testing the preference.
First, the locked value should be quoted, right? As the below:

{
"browser.fixup.dns_first_for_single_words": {
"Value": true,
"Status": "locked"
}
}

I have done this:
1) entered in the "preferences"  window in the Group Policy editor;
2) clicked on "Enabled" check
3) pasted the above text

Unfortunately, neither in the Computer or User configuration, this
preference is applied to my Firefox 78.4.0 ESR.

Hello,

If I write in URL address:

servername/service

Firefox uses it as google search, not to go to that site directly.

>From the github of policy templates I have seen this in the DEPRECATED
section. But I am unsure if I can use this or another policy setting?

browser.fixup.dns_first_for_single_words boolean Firefox 68, Firefox
ESR 68 false
If true, single words are sent to DNS, not directly to search.

Yes, and they don't always login (i.e. someone uses this computer, then

At end, I'll suggest to backup their saved password to a CSV file, then to
re-import them in newer version.

[Mozilla Enterprise] From 52 to 76: disable some things

2020-05-21 Thread Luca Manganelli
Hello,

I've noticed that when I upgrade from Firefox 52 to 76, Firefox opens two
tabs:

  - what's new
  - privacy notice

and in plus, there's a dialog box showing about Profile migration.

Is there any way to disable these 3 things via group policy?

Thank you in advance
Luca

While I haven't noticed that this is more prevalent with 52.2 and up, we

line, and recall it being annoyingly slow, if usable in 45 on Windows 7
also... I.e. Firefox having a hanging UI randomly based on web page
isn't anything new to me.

Maybe, and I suspect it, the slowdowns are correlated to the infamous
bug with safebrowsing doing excessive I/O operations.

[Mozilla Enterprise] CCK2 Fault? (era: Re: Setting Firefox 52 ESR to use built in PDF viewer)

2018-02-21 Thread Luca Manganelli

Il 20/02/2018 16:54, Luca Manganelli ha scritto:

"built in viewer", at the next restart this setting is reset to "Use

I found that, maybe, it's CCK2 fault. The offending code is this (file
CCK2.jsm)

if (i == "plugin.disable_full_page_plugin_for_types") {
if (!config.preferences[i].userset &&
!config.preferences[i].locked &&
!config.preferences[i].clear) {
  if (Preferences.get(i) == "application/pdf" ||
  !Preferences.get(i) || // firstrun
  config.upgrade ||
  config.firstrun) {
Preferences.set(i, config.preferences[i].value);
continue;
  }
}
  }

This piece of code causes, at ever Firefox restart, the reset of
application/pdf setting. If the user has Adobe Reader installed, this
settings is set to "Adobe Reader (in Firefox)". If the user tries to
change it to built in pdf reader, at next restart this settings returns
to Adobe Reader.

Commenting the above code fixes this issue.

[Mozilla Enterprise] Setting Firefox 52 ESR to use built in PDF viewer

2018-02-20 Thread Luca Manganelli

Hi, I know that it's not a common question.

We are using Firefox 52.6 ESR.

We, in our organization, want to use the Firefox PDF.js viewer:

in about:config, pdfjs.disabled is set to FALSE

in our PCs the Adobe Reader is installed (also as a firefox plugin). We
discovered that when I set, in the Options->Applications, the PDF to
"built in viewer", at the next restart this setting is reset to "Use
Adobe Reader (plugin), and remains this at ever boot, even I change it...

As anyone found this strange problem?

Further investigation found that the SafeBrowsing component writes too
much on the HDD file "mozilla in userprofile \ safebrowsing \
goog-phish-shavar-1.sbstore". Performance monitor shows Firefox is
writing this file continously at 7 MB/sec for minutes... why?

[Mozilla Enterprise] Extreme Disk I/O usage with Firefox 52

2018-01-15 Thread Luca Manganelli

Hi,

have anyone noticed extreme disk I/O usage with Firefox 52?

On Windows task manager/System Performance, sometimes I see that Firefox
52 is reading/writing on disk at 7 mb/seconds for minutes, with only two
tabs opened.

This problem also occurs with empty profiles.

A solution seems is to set browser.sessionstore.interval to 5 minutes.
Has anyone found this problem?

migrating from a Firefox 38 profile (with autoconfig) to a Firefox 52

any way to force installing them in existing user's profile?

+1. In a large organization, it's MUCH more less painfully to configure
Firefox preferences with a Group Policy. This way permits you to set
different configurations for OU/Groups. And Firefox should permit to use
the certificates installed in Windows, like in Internet Explorer.
