[EVDL] EV-angelicals and Uber, Lyft?

2018-06-02 Thread Robert Bruninga via EV
Have you already told everyone you know about the wonders of EV driving?
Is there no one else that will listen to you over and over again?

Then trap new people to talk to... Drive for Uber of Lyft.

--
Wouild that make sense as a promo? Is there anyone on this list that is an
uber or lyft driver that can comment on this idea?

CAR conversion company RemetzCar has revealed its Tesla Model S Shooting
Brake, which stunningly transforms the electric car into a sporty estate
vehicle.

There has been major diversification in the types of electric cars on sale
over the past decade; with there now being SUV variants, sports cars, city
cars and sedans.

However, drivers that are after an estate car will have to look elsewhere as
there are currently no electric wagons in production

A number of companies have taken it upon themselves to rectify this, using
the Tesla Model S as the guinea pig.

UK company Qwest became the first to unveil a Model S Wagon, but RemetzCar
has taken it to another level.

The car looks more thoughtfully designed to accommodate the Estate-style
rear, which blends more seamlessly into the original design.

Extra chrome trim has been added to help give the car a more premium feel
and to help blend the new estate back into the original design.

New badging also adorns the car at the front, rear and on the sides and
inside the car.

It was designed by Dutchman Niels van Roij and his team in London and is due
to be produced in a coach building facility outside of Amsterdam.

In addition to the obvious changes to the car’s rear, there have been a
number of modifications inside the vehicle.

These include new trim options inside the car and new interior colours and
to the exterior with a new colour of paint which developed for the Shooting
Brake.

The car's battery or motor have, however, not been modifed and it has not
been revealed how the larger rear will affect the car's performance.

Floris de Raadt explained the reason for the project:”The idea was to
translate my Tesla Model S into a dynamic and sporty yet elegant Shooting
Brake, rather than creating a car with maximum luggage space.

“Niels van Roij Design developed several options for the conversion,
focusing on premium design combined with limited conversion costs: thus
making coach building available for a larger group of connoisseurs.

“Our favourite was the option called ‘Bold Chrome’, featuring remarkable
high gloss chrome window trims emphasizing the bold dynamic lines of the
car. The result is truly stunning!”

Prices for the cost of conversion have not yet been revealed.

Qwest quotes the conversion for its Model S Wagon starts from £70,000.

[EVDL] EVLN: Hotter I-Pace SVR> untrained get restricted-performance

Jaguar product planning boss Hanno Kirner says the I-Pace's 50/50 weight
distribution would be key in a hotter version

A high-performance Jaguar I-Pace SVR [
https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/motor-shows-new-york-motor-show/jaguar-i-pace-svr-under-evaluation
] – and any other performance electric cars – would not be engineered for
their 0-60mph performance alone, according to high-ranking Jaguar Land Rover
officials.

With rumours of an I-Pace SVR – and even a special limited-edition ‘Project’
car – gathering momentum, product planning boss Hanno Kirner conceded that
teams within the firm had already worked through potential credentials for
such cars.

“We have asked ourselves how you would ‘SVR’ an electric car,” said Kirner.
“Yes, we can make it do 0-60mph in 1.8sec. It’s a good headline, but once
you’ve done it once or twice, and lost your eyes in the back of their
sockets, you might not want to do it again.”

Jaguar F-Pace SVR unveiled

Kirner highlighted the I-Pace’s 50/50 weight distribution and dynamic set-up
in standard form as indications of what could be possible with the car. He
also suggested that technical enhancements from current SVR vehicles could
be applied in the same way to the I-Pace but also cautioned that an electric
powertrain would need to be treated with respect.

“You also have to make sure you can’t go too fast,” he said. “I do worry
that the instant torque and performance might be too much for untrained
drivers. It may be that we have to impose some kind of restriction, so that
the performance is limited until they have gone on a driving course or
something.”

Kirner stopped short of confirming a high-performance I-Pace, stressing
instead that the car had the capability to be developed as an SVR
(performance), SVX (off-road) or SVA (luxury) vehicle if the company chose
to do so. “There is probably more than one route we could take,”he said.
“But there is definitely space for a performance electric car or cars.”

An SVR version of the I-Pace is thought to be most likely initially as it
ties in with the one-make I-Pace eTrophy racing series that will launch
later this year. An SVA version is set to follow once the reborn Jaguar XJ
is established as the manufacturer’s halo model.

Jaguar also faces a fight to maintain its electric SUV leadership among
established car makers, having beaten Audi (and its E-tron), BMW and
Mercedes to market with the I-Pace.

]

One of the most hard-core EVs ever made is set to take on the Finke Desert
Race

It’s touted as the first zero-emissions vehicle to complete the Dakar Rally
and now Acciona’s Spanish-built EV rally racer is taking on the 2018 Finke
Desert Race, which runs over June 8-11 from Alice Springs.

The Spanish-built EV rally car has an unusual name, the Acciona 100%
EcoPowered, matched by an unusual propulsion system — a potent 250kW/800Nm
synchronous electric motor.

Riding on big 245/85 R16 rally tyres and fitted with serious fully regulated
nitrogen gas-filled hydraulic suspension, the first EV rally car to take on
Finke is built take a pounding.

We asked the man who oversaw the building of the car and runs the Jaton
Racing team, Ariel Jaton, why he decided to enter the EV rally into the
Finke Desert race.

“This car has competed around the world, in Dakar, Italy and Morocco.
Australia has a great car culture and a tough rally in the Finke, so we
really wanted to see what it could do here.”

It won’t be an easy task for the Spanish team at Finke, with the likes of
five-times winner Toby Price attempting to snaffle a ‘Finke Double’ by
winning the car and motorcycle categories.

“We’re really proud and very excited to be the first electric car to be in
the Finke,” said Jaton.

“It’s something new for everyone involved, and of course we’ve spent a lot
of time making sure that our car, which is compliant with FIA-ASO
regulations, also meets local standards here for the race,” he said.

The EV rally car will be piloted by a pair of female drivers, Andrea
Peterhansel – the wife of Dakar legend Stephane and a Dakar regular herself
— and Emma Clair, who make their Aussie racing debut at Finke after racing
at the 2017 Baja Italia rally in the rugged EV.

The quieter-than-usual EV rally car runs eight lithium-ion battery modules
and has a 100Wh photovoltaic solar panel on the roof to top up its energy
reserves.

Jaton says the brawny EV rally car is the result of five years of
development and shows that motorsport could easily go down the EV path.

He said his career highlight was seeing the EV finish the Dakar Rally and is
confident there’s a bright future for EV motorsport categories, such as
Formula E.

But how about an E-Rally Championship in the future? Jaton reckons it’s
entirely possible.

“Yes, I think we could – and then eventually years from now it may just
become the normal rally championship as today’s petrol-powered cars are
phased out.”

“I guess it’s early days for EV motorsport, and the transition will take
time, but in the medium to long-term future, this will be where the action
is because increased investment and technological change will drive it all
forward,” said Jaton.

“We are seeing a big move to renewable energy around the world – not just in
motorsports, but in consumer vehicles, and everyday life beyond that too.

“Companies like Tesla have captured people’s imagination and with our 100%
EcoPowered car we are playing our own small part in this massive change.”
