Ford’s upcoming EV is a contentious model, despite how little we know about
it. Intended to help bring the automaker into the brave new world of
electromobility, it also leans upon the brand’s heritage by being a
“Mustang-inspired” performance crossover. Whether you’re totally behind the
idea or want to stand directly in its path in a Tiananmen-style showdown,
its existence will change the company at least as much as axing its
traditional car lineup will.

Like most automakers, Ford wants a lineup that hosts plenty of electrics. It
knows it has to come out of the gate with a winner. But the car saddled with
that responsibility has already faced some problems. Early reports
indicating the vehicle would carry the “Mach 1” name led to mass wailing
from Mustang fans. While Ford temporarily dialed back the pony car
associations, marketing tactics eventually shifted back toward getting the
public riled up about the upcoming model’s performance.

Bill Ford, the automaker’s executive chairman and great-grandson of Henry
Ford, was even getting in on the action while speaking at the Crain’s
Detroit Business Newsmaker of the Year event earlier this week. According to
Automotive News, he said the new EV “is going to go like hell.”

It’s a relatively famous and carefully chosen phrase. Back in the Swinging
Sixties, Henry Ford II and some of the most famous names in automotive
history joined forces in an attempt to unseat Ferrari’s at the 24 Hours of
Le Mans. At the time, the very idea seemed ludicrous. Ferrari had enjoyed
five years of dominance in France and Ford was an unproven upstart. But,
with some encouragement from Henry II telling Shelby-American to “go like
hell,” Ford’s GT40 trounced Europe’s best in 1966.

Dusting off the old quote highlights this dichotomy of past and future that
Ford seems fixated on. But it’s rather fitting to hear Bill quote his uncle.
In the world of electric vehicles, Ford is viewed as an underdog; it would
be a major triumph for it to mass produce an EV with heart-pounding
performance. Fortunately, that now seems to be the goal.

“When we first started talking about electrification, there was this thought
that there had to be a trade-off: It was either going to be green and boring
and no fun, or really exciting but burn a lot of fossil fuels,” Ford said.
“Electrification has come to the point that you can do both.”

The manufacturer is already in the later stages of development and a large,
heavily camouflaged crossover sporting a fake exhaust pipe and no gas cap
has already been spotted on public roads. However, beyond its claimed
300-mile (or better) range, little is known about the future model. In fact,
this is one of the few times that company brass has even directly
acknowledged the vehicle as having serious performance chops.

Due in late 2020, the electric crossover will likely don the “Mach E”
moniker (patent filings for the name emerged in December). However, Ford is
under no obligation to use that title and could just as easily fall back on
its earlier Mach 1 tie-in or come up with an entirely new name. Production
was originally intended to commence in Flat Rock, Michigan later this year,
but Ford ultimately decided to build the vehicle in Mexico. We hope some
leaks sneak north of the border in the coming months.

Every technological era has seen the alleged invention of a device which
attempts to prove that the dominating force of the technology actually needs
no fuel and it will put the fuel-providers out of business by giving the

us, a Ghanaian by name Kweku Yimfa Arkorful of Best Brain Electronic has
converted a fuel car to an electric car that consumes low power by charging.

An electric car - also battery electric car or all-electric car is a plug-in
electric automobile that is propelled by one or more electric motors, using
energy typically stored in rechargeable batteries.

Electric cars are more popular today in the western world let you travel in
silence and produce zero emissions.

Speaking to Peacefmonline.com, the convertor, Kweku Nifa Akwaful explained
that his reason for inventing the electric car was due to the high rise of
fuel in the country.

The biggest worry of electric cars has been how they took up to 12 hours to
fully charge only to last at most about 150Km before they cried for another
12 hrs of charge.

But, Kweku Yimfa Arkorful said his electric car takes only 2 hours to fully
charge and can last for 260Km.

“I have designed my car in such a way that, when fully charged, it can last
for 260Km, that can take you from Accra to Kumasi, but you have to charge it
before you can return and that will only cost you Ghc2 from any charging
center”  he said

He said the newly built electronic car is for his own use but noted that he
will consider a mass production in no time.

Porsche’s next-generation Macan crossover will be fully electric, the
automaker has announced today, with the upcoming compact SUV bypassing gas
and diesel engines altogether. The new Macan will be produced at Porsche’s
Leipzig site, the same location that the company will manufacturer the
upcoming Taycan sports EV sedan.

The Porsche Taycan will be the automaker’s first all-electric model. Taking
on Tesla’s Model S, the car – arguably still better known by its former
Mission-E codename – will feature 800V charging for super-fast battery
recharge, and come with three years of free charging access to Electrify
America stations across the US.

Porsche intends to launch the Taycan later in 2019. It’ll be followed soon
after by the Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo, a crossover version based on the
concept of the same name. That will have a raised ride-height as well as
more muscular styling, though also be all-electric.

The automaker’s goals for electrification are more than just a single series
buried in its overall line-up, however. By 2025, Porsche has said, it plans
to have some sort of electric drive in half of all its new models. That
could mean mild-hybrids, plug-in hybrids, or fully-electric, sitting
alongside updated versions of internal-combustion engines.

The decision to take the Macan all-electric, though, comes as something of a
shock. The luxury SUV – which followed the best-selling Porsche Cayenne –
launched in 2014, and has been instrumental in buoying the automaker’s
fortunes since then. It shares the same platform with the first-generation
Auto Q5, and is as such smaller than the Cayenne.

Come the second-generation, though, things will change. Porsche says it’ll
build the new Macan on the same Porsche PPE (Premium Platform Electric)
architecture as the Taycan, the platform co-developed with Audi for electric
vehicles exclusively. It’s a new platform, so-far unseen in the market. The
Audi e-tron, for example, uses the VW Group’s MLB platform instead.

The Macan EV will feature the same 800 volt technology as the Taycan, which
means access to super-high-speed charging. With the right 350 kW charger,
Porsche has said, the Taycan’s battery could add 60 miles of range every
four minutes. Obviously not every charger in the Electrify America network
will deliver that sort of power – or, indeed, the chargers Porsche of
America is having installed at all 191 dealerships across the US – but it
does go a long way to helping reduce range anxiety.

Given drivers’ current love-affair with SUVs and crossovers, an electric SUV
makes a lot of sense for Porsche. How enthusiasts, wooed by models like the
Macan Turbo and Macan GTS, might feel remains to be seen. Production of the
second-generation Macan EV is expected to begin “at the start of the next
decade,” Porsche says.

Electric motorcycle manufacturer Zero Motorcycles unveiled two new models on
Monday, the latest step in its quest to challenge gas-burning bikes and fend
off competition in the small but growing segment.

The California company is releasing its newest bike just months after
American heavyweight motorcycle maker Harley-Davidson unveiled its LiveWire
motorcycle in November. Other established bike manufacturers intend to
produce electric motorcycles, but Zero has something of a head start. It
specializes in electric motorcycles and has been making them since 2006.

"We sell more full-size premium electric motorcycles than all our
competitors combined," said Zero Motorcycles CEO Sam Paschel, at a launch
event in New York on Monday. The Zero SR/F is a brand new product "from the
ground up," he said.

The bike comes in two trims, a standard model starting at $18,995 and a
premium model available starting at $20,995.

That means Zero's higher-end version is about $10,000 cheaper than the
Harley-Davidson LiveWire, a new electric bike the venerable motorcycle
company hopes will help it attract new riders, including those who are
excited about the potential for electric powertrains. The LiveWire's price
hovers around $30,000, which means it could need to come down if
Harley-Davidson wants to compete with an upstart like Zero.

The Zero SR/F will feature a brand new battery motor and rapid charging
system. The SR/F has 140 pound-foot of torque and "unbelievable
acceleration," Pashel said. It has a top speed of 124 miles per hour and
over 100 horsepower. The bike can drive up to 200 miles in the city with its
largest available battery, about the same as Zero's current motorcycles. It
can be charged to nearly full capacity in about an hour.

The company said the motorcycle, which will begin shipping in April, will
connect to the cloud and comes with an integrated mobile app.

"I certainly applaud Harley's efforts to attract new riders with electric
bikes, which should appeal to a younger, urban dwelling demographic," said
Raymond James analyst Joe Altobello. "That said, it will likely take time to
really move the needle for them given the relatively small size of the
market, the potential improvements in battery life, and the relatively high
price point, with LiveWire starting at nearly $30,000."

Rising sales of all electric vehicles indicates there is a future for a
plug-in motorcycle, Pashel said.

"From 2008 to 2010, over that three year period, the total number of plug-in
vehicles of all types sold in the United States, were under 5,000 units,"
Paschel said, speaking to a room full of reporters at the vehicle launch.
"Now if you compare that with last year, there were over 300,000 plug-in
vehicles of all types sold in the United States. Your presence here
indicates that the idea of electrification has gone from something of a
novelty to something that has a lot of excitement around it."

It is correct: you are proposing connecting the battery and caps directly in 
parallel, therefore they must always be at (very nearly) the same voltage.

But, don't worry, this doesn't necessarily prevent them from achieving your 
goal.  You stated your goal is to try to keep the peak current seen by the 
battery below 90A despite peak loads of 100A.  When the load changes, current 
will divide between the caps and battery based on their impedance relative to 
each other.  That is, suddenly applying a load to the battery causes its 
voltage to sag (somewhat); however, as soon as it sags even a little, the lower 
impedance ("stiffer") cap bank supplies more of the load current, and so the 
battery sags a bit less (and supplies a bit less of the load) than it would 
without the caps.  The opposite occurs during regen: suddenly applying current 
to the battery causes its voltage to increase, and if it rises high enough the 
controller will reduce the regen current (hopefully).  With the caps in 
parallel, as soon as the battery voltage tries to rise even a bit, less of the 
current goes to the battery and more of it goes into the caps.  Less current 
into the battery results in a bit less voltage rise, so the peak battery 
voltage during regen tends not to spike as high as it would without the caps.

How much reduction in battery current is realized will depend upon how much 
lower impedance the caps are than the batteries.  The benefit will be more 
pronounced if the battery has significantly more impedance than the caps.

as the voltage of the capacitors can never go below the sag voltage of 
the LiIon cells under load, and can never go above the LiIon cells 
voltage during regen.


I am not sure this statement is correct.  I am counting on the caps to take 
higher voltage. 
If the regen statement is true maybe under regen the battery pack should be

Tata has been talking big ([bull.., buffalo ... and elephant shite]) about
electric cars since the last 10 YEARS!!! It showcased Indica Vista Electric
Car &  Nano Electric car in 2010 and talked about them… yet they never mass
manufactured them.

Tatat NEVER EVER produced a electric vehicle from the ground up. They kept
converting their ICE Cars to EVs and called them electric cars!!! LOL.

At the same time here is Techinical Partha showing you how to easily convert
a Tata Nano to a Nano EV… with 4 batteries & 2 electric motors. Obviously
removing the ICE engine is more difficult than attaching the electric
motors. Tata Nano being a rear wheel drive vehicle makes it a perfect
vehicle for converting to electric car.

It looks more peppy than the original NANO! Although top speed is less the
torque seems to be much higher.

Tata promised Electric Nano, Electric Indica, Electric Tiago, Electric Bolt

The upstart car brand is run by the son of former VW chairman Ferdinand
Piëch.

There's another newcomer automaker planning to show off an all-electric
concept car at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show. This time the company is
called Piëch Automotive, and photos of the car in question, the Mark Zero,
were revealed on social media this week.

Piëch Automotive is a relatively unknown car company, existing only since
2016, but the name at least should sound familiar. That's because its
co-founder, Anton Piëch, is the son of former Volkswagen Group chairman
Ferdinand Piëch, Autocar reports. The elder Piëch resigned in 2015. Despite
the familial link, there is apparently no connection between the Swiss-based
Piëch Automotive and VW.

Design sketches shared on Instagram, as well as a teaser photo of the Mark
Zero under a cover, show what appears to be a compact coupe. Its large, oval
grille and round headlights almost recall the nose of an Aston Martin, while
around back the sloping rear window terminates in a flat, stubby tail.

Though Piëch has so far released almost no details on the car publicly,
Autocar says it is planned to weigh under 3,970 pounds and will offer a
driving range of up to 311 miles under European testing cycles. The
batteries are reportedly mounted in the car's central tunnel and near the
rear axle.

Piëch's website claims that, "We stand on the shoulders of giants, but
refuse to bow to industry convention." All will be revealed when the car is
shown publicly in Geneva on Tuesday, March 5.
