With a bit of effort, you can adapt the old bracket by drilling/cutting the new holes. One of my Leafs came with one bracket hand-tight and the other missing entirely, so I am not so sure that you even need those brackets. The control connector is the critical item as it cannot be exchanged without opening the battery (and the new batteries are glued shut) Cor. When a Leaf dealership replaces a 2011-2012 battery with a gen2 battery, there is an extra "adapter cable kit" they use that allows the gen2 battery to work in a gen1 vehicle. [Plus, they reprogram the computer to work with the new battery (or perhaps, reprogram the battery to work with the new car?)] If you are trying to do the upgrade yourself, the low-tech solution is to open up both batteries and swap out the modules (only) from the new battery into the old battery (keeping the old battery shell, connectors, and BMS system), so that no re-programming of the computer is needed. The round control plug on the front has a different pitch to the pins, the rest is similar enough to work. Only do not mix the internal wiring and BMS from the two, as connector pin positions internally are different, even though connectors physically fit. Cor. VW confirmed there won't be a Mk 8 e-Golf. It's going to be replaced by the
upcoming ID.4.
A Volkswagen spokesperson confirmed to Road & Track today the company has
discontinued its all-electric Golf hatchback, the e-Golf. The spokesperson
also confirmed there will be no Mk 8 version of the e-Golf. Instead, the
company's upcoming ID.3 electric hatchback will occupy that spot in VW's
lineup in Europe. We'll be getting the ID.4 in America.
The e-Golf first launched in 2012 as an ultra-low production test vehicle.
It wasn't until 2015 and the Mk 7 bodystyle that the e-Golf saw full-scale
production. Later models could achieve 125 miles on a single charge, and
sprint from 0-60 mph in 8.5 seconds. According to VW, if you want a new
e-Golf, you'll have to procure one of the 2019 model-year cars currently
sitting on dealership lots—America's allocation of 2020 cars has been
diverted to Canada.
If you were waiting for Volkswagen to introduce a new Mk 8 e-Golf, we're
sorry to disappoint, but it's not coming. Instead, VW will fill the empty
spot in its lineup with its new ID.3 hatchback, a purpose-built electric
model. Packing futuristic looks, rear-wheel-drive, and a 341-mile range,
it's a massive step up from the e-Golf. But sadly, it's not coming to
America. Instead, we're getting the ID.4, a larger crossover.
As VW's ID electric sub-brand expands, we should start to see EVs from the
German manufacturer come stateside. A crossover is likely the first to
arrive. But for now, we'll just have to wait patiently.

Norfolk-based Equipmake is developing a 295bhp power unit that weighs less
than 10kg
UK-based engineering firm Equipmake is developing what it claims is “the
world’s most power-dense permanent magnet electric motor”.
Designed in collaboration with 3D printing specialist Hieta, the so-called
Ampere motor will weigh less than 10kg but provide a peak output of 295bhp.
For reference, the Jaguar I-Pace’s two electric motors weigh around 40kg
each and produce 197bhp.
The Ampere’s 27bhp per kg output gives it a better power density rating than
any conventional electric motor on sale.
The unit’s lightness is due mostly to minimal use of metal in its
construction, and an innovative 3D-printed casing that is as thin as
possible. An added benefit of this construction method is enhanced thermal
efficiency, which means the motor can spin faster for longer without
overheating.
Despite its impressive performance, the Ampere will command a relatively low
list price, given its resource-light construction.
The motor’s development has been funded by the Government’s Innovate UK
programme, which gives financial support to UK-based projects.
Working prototypes are expected to be in operation within the next 12
months.
