Check your VIN against the recall checker. If it shows up, you get the repair for free. If it doesn't show up, either the repair was already done, or your vehicle is not affected. I'm pretty sure that Cor is right; safety recalls don't expire, although I've read that the manufacturer can challenge the requirement if the vehicle is more than 15 years old. Do I recall right that your Leaf's VIN was NOT listed as one to which that recall applied? If that's true, then you probably don't officially get a free fix for this. Have you tried calling Nissan customer service? If you do a little sweet- talking, they might agree to arrange a free or reduced-cost repair for the sake of goodwill and your continued business. Mark, That is absolute bollocks. As far as I know: *Recalls* never time out, they are mandatory, enforced by external entities, so it is grounds for a complaint against the manufacturer. I have similar experience - dealers often have no clue what they are required to do, so they try to bluff you out of it. Hi Folks I just got back from Team Nissan dealer Roanoke VA and they said the Recall on my 2013 was too old to be included and did a $250 evaluation and said that since my vehicle sat for 3 months while on vacation , that it caused the problem due to low battery and not the software. The service department claimed that I already had the latest brake software installed. (Guess it was installed by aliens). I’ll have to wait till next winter (with a new battery) and see if it occurs again. Folks on the list have said that they weren't very helpful with the infamous hot battery problems back in the day, but even with no real knowledge I'd still guess that the actual cost of this fix is much lower than a new battery was back then. It also wouldn't suprise me, cynic that I am, if yourdealer is inflating the cost because they think they can. Or maybe try another dealer? [EVDL] 2013-2015 Nissan Leaf recalled for braking
Thanks Dave etc, I put the VIN number in to your recommended link and it does *not* come up as a recall for the 46K Leaf cold brake failures *but* my 2013 Leaf has the exact problem described also with the red ! lit dash indicator light as described in the online article, said it was a software fix (new brake-control download). The stealership said if I can't find the recall for my VIN, then I'll have to pay $250 to come in + the fix (total about $1K). I thought that a software update download was free? Also thanks for the recommendation on the LED lights replacement for dim headlights (that work above 9V). That sounds like the way to go. Hi folks My 2013 Nissan Leaf has this cold braking problem and I can’t figure out if the brake booster dropout when cold is software (cheap update) or hardware related (replace brake booster). Is anyone familiar with this 46.9K vehicles recall? The Roanoke Va Peter’s creek rd Nissan dealer says I’d have to pay for this since it’s no longer a recall (about $1k).
