It is likely the same bug, as the fixing commit never made it to the
mesa 9.2 branch and thus not into the evergreen mesa package.
Backporting the patches to 9.2 should do the trick

I do. But I use the proprietary nvidia.run package now.
I've not experienced problems, but I don't use startx, but init 5 -
except for testing.
