[Evolution-hackers] [Camel] Bug 352284 - fix causes another crash

2007-06-25 Thread Nathan Owens
Bug 352284's title is crash in camel_mime_part_construct_content_from_parser.
It has a patch, and the patch has been committed to the trunk and release in
2.11.4.

Before this is released to stable, I wanted to raise the issue that the fix
causes another crash. When I have delete e-mail from server after X days
turned on, Evolution will crash. Reverting to the previous version of
camel-pop3-folder.c fixes the problem.

Of course, that doesn't fix the original problem, but the patch shouldn't be
committed to stable until it works with the delete e-mail from server feature
on and off. Wish I had a solution, but I don't have much experience with Camel.

Nathan

[Evolution-hackers] Question about Groupwise and Memos (see bug 389668)

2007-02-10 Thread Nathan Owens
Back when the Groupwise functionality was implement for the Memos component,
the summary and
start date fields were added to the Memos GUI. I was wondering why this is
done.

IMO, Memos shouldn't have a start date, or a summary. In fact, when I
originally implemented the
component, the Summary field was just a cut-off portion of the Description. It
was done
on-the-fly, and only because I wanted a portion of the Description to show up
in the Memos
component table view. Showing the Description field in the Memos component
table didn't look very
good.

Adding the summary field has now caused this bug:
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=389668.

As for the Start Date - the memos component isn't meant to be a Journal. It
only uses the VJOURNAL
format because I didn't want to write a new backend (and at the time, the
consensus on the
evolution-hackers list was that VJOURNAL would be appropriate). If we want a
true journal, then we
need a new component. Memos are just little notes (think of the Notes feature
in Outlook, or the
Memos feature in PalmOS - the PalmOS feature is what made me create the Memos
component in the
first place).

Here's my proposal that I'd like to get feedback on:
- Remove the Summary and Start Date fields from the GUI
- Start Date is never set (could always be set to 0, but I don't believe I
needed to do that when
Memos was first implemented)
- The summary field is automatically filled in (on-the-fly, or whenever the
Description gets
updated) based on the Description.

I don't know much about GW, but I believe the core code should not support the
Date and Summary
fields as they are currently supported. If we need something different for GW,
then it should be
implemented differently.

Any thoughts? Anyone have insight into the Groupwise changes and why they were
made?

Thanks,
Nathan Owens

Looks good. I was very happy to see the Memos component listed on there (moved
the apostrophe on my name to after the s on the page).

You'll probably need an updated patch for it, since a lot has changed since I
submitted it. I can get you one or post it to the bugzilla page. I've also
found one small bug in the current patch: it couldn't print due to print.c not
being updated to handle the E_CAL_COMPONENT_JOURNAL type. That would be fixed
in an updated patch.

One thing that might be good to put on the page is to update the gnome-pilot
conduits. There are some bugs that need to be fixed (duplicate entries, for
instance). The conduits also need to be updated for the upcoming pilot-link
0.12 release. There are also new database formats for the PalmOS that need to
be used (they'll be support in the 0.12 release of pilot-link). Just some
thoughts about where the PalmOS part of Evolution might go.
