Re: [Evolution] I fixed a problem

Good! Thank you for the information!

Regards,
LAILAH

2013/5/22, Bart montana_evolution_u...@hardinmt.us:
 openSUSE 12.3
 KDE 4.10.3
 Evolution 3.8.2

The problem: After updating from Evolution 3.6 which was distributed
with openSUSE 12.3, to Evolution 3.8.1,, the plugin evolution-tray would
 not work.

Today, I updated to Evolution 3.8.2, and saw an update to
evolution-tray, so I added that to the update. It still didn't work.

I looked around for the location of the plugins, and found it
in /usr/lib64/evolution/3.6/plugins. All by itself. There is a
 directory /usr/lib64/evolution/3.8/plugins. So I copied
 liborg-gnome-evolution-tray.so and org-gnome-evolution-tray.eplug from
to 3.6/plugins directory to the 3.8/plugins directory, shutdown and
restarted Evolution and evolution-tray is now working.

I know Evolution is a Gnome application, and I don't think
evolution-tray has a use in Gnome, and I don't know if it's unique to
openSUSE, and I don't know if this list is the correct place for this
message, but I find a lot of useful information here. It's one of the
first places I look, so I thought I'd post this here.

The way to regulate the appearance of Gnome under KDE, at least until Gnome

What Operative System are you using?

I have just switched from gnome to KDE (since I don't like gnome's new
window model). Unfortunately, evolution seems to take its font control
only from gnome. Evolution's internal font control doesn't seem to do
anything, nor does KDE font control.

Does anyone know how to control evolution's fonts under KDE? In the
past, I ran a gnome daemon and a utility to set evolution's font size,
but this was about 5 years ago, and much has changed since then.

 Thanks - jon

Yes, I know list problems should be reported to the admins but I've
already done so and received no response whatever, not even an ACK. See
 below.

The situation is as follows: I have seen *no* traffic from the Evo list
since April 10, 2011. I've been very busy in recent weeks and hadn't
noticed, but then I did notice a week or so and tried to find out what
 was going on.

First I went to the admin page at
 https://mail.gnome.org/mailman/options/evolution-list (with the idea of
checking if I'd turned off delivery and forgotten about it). Since I had
naturally forgotten my list password, I requested a new copy. Nothing
 happened.

I requested it again. Nothing happened.
(repeat 4 or 5 times over the course of several days while recalling
Einstein's remark that repeating the same experiment over and over and
expecting a different result is a sign of lunacy).

I wrote directly to the list admins indicated on the above page, asking
them to please copy any reply to a personal address in case something
was wrong at my end. Note that I didn't ask them to send the password to
that address, just to confirm that I was still a registered user.

I sent a message (Evo 3 conversion seems flaky) a few days ago,
confirmed that it reached the archives but was not returned to me.

I installed a .forward file in my mail server to copy everything to the
secondary account before any filters could mess with it.

I asked the server admin to check his logs for the past week. Nothing
has been received from the Evo list server.

I'm now sending this to the list as a last resort. If anyone knows of a
problem with the Mailman installation, or has a way of asking the admins
directly, I'd appreciate knowing about it.

Obviously I won't see replies to this via the list (though I'll look at
the archives page from time to time) so please CC me directly. Call it a
 special case :-)

 Hi,

All mails that I send are put twice in my Sent items folder. If I try to
delete them that mostly fails, although sometimes it miraculously works.
 But now it says:

 Unable to retrieve message
 Cannot get message 6147 from
 folder /home/jkr/.local/share/evolution/mail/local/Sent The folder
 appears to be irrecoverably corrupted.

Looking into that directory it seems to contain everything it should.

Is there anything I can do to repair the damage? The Sent file seems to
contain all the mails I have sent and I would *really* like to svae them
 from total annihilation...

I would say so. Main window's toolbar should remain static.

Just to throw another idea out there...

Claws Mail has an interesting approach to this problem. They define

I would probably reword the label, but same idea. How does that sound?
I don't suggest new preferences lightly, but I'd rather keep toolbar and
menu changes to a minimum here.

 So my proposal is:

Reply(Ctrl+R) : Replies to sender on private emails,
 configurable for mailing list posts.

Reply to Sender : Works like Reply currently does, or
 maybe overrides Reply-To munging?

Reply to List(Ctrl+L) : No change.

Reply to All (Shift+Ctrl+R) : For mailing list posts, put list
address in To:, sender in Cc:

Then we can debate an appropriate default for the preference.

Re: [Evolution] Reply for list messages should go back to the list

2010-07-12 Thread Sylvia Sánchez

Totally agree. At least, it could be a reply-to-list button in the
toolbar or right-clicking.

Note: this is a comment on Evo itself, rather than the Evo list.

As someone who posts quite a lot on this list, I'm forever having to
deal with people replying to my personal address rather than the list
address. Of course they should be using Reply To List (Ctrl-L) or even
Reply-To-All (Shift-Ctrl-R) but occasionally they forget and use just
Reply (Ctrl-R) so one has to remind them. I'm sure other frequent
 contributors find the same thing.

An obvious solution to this is to do what Kmail does. When the message
being replied to contains a List-Post header, Ctrl-R should do the same
as Ctrl-L. There should also be a Reply-To-Author command for the rare
case when the reply should be directed to the message Reply-To field,
 presumably the author's personal address.

This would work on lists, including this one, which follow RFC-2822 and
don't do Reply-To munging. For those that do munge the Reply-To field,
a reply to the author would require some editing, but that's already the
case with these lists so nothing is lost.

(Those who follow the Fedora Users list will know there's been a long
thread about munging, which that list does do.)

PS If you reply to this, please make sure it goes to the list unless you
*really* want to say something to me personally :-)

Re: [Evolution] Searching in the calendar.

2010-06-09 Thread Sylvia Sánchez

Yes, there's a way. Look for a long text box over Tasks in the
Calendar view. It says Search and is on the right upper side, under
the toolbar. If you type here what you want and select some search
rule, Evolution will returns a result (if there any). Evo doesn't show
a list like Kontact or Korganizer but shows marked events in the
calendar. If there any task or note which is coincident, it shows it
too. If you want a list view, pick it in the toolbar.

Hope this helps

I don't know anything about KDE I'm afraid - but certainly in Gnome you
need to tell Network Manager that you have a wired (or even wireless)
connection and then things work.  If you have no connection showing in
Network Manager, then Evo probably thinks there is no network connection
on your machine and so doesn't connect.

You need to tell the system that the network interface is managed by NM.
Even if the network is working, if NM is not registered as managing it
then some apps including Evo and Firefox will think you aren't
 connected.

The front-end to NM can be nm-applet (Gnome) or knetworkmanager (KDE),
it doesn't matter. I'm not familiar with Debian, but under Fedora the
easiest route is to run system-config-network from a Shell and mark the
 interface as managed by NM.

Anyway, its (I believe) part of the POP specification that only your

is not a synchronization, so it only downloads one-way, therefore it is
not possible for you to use POP to download your sent messages. When you
send mail through Evolution, it saves its own copy (without talking to
gmail) in the Sent folder locally. Gmail then saves another copy in the
  Sent folder it maintains

This is nothing to do with Evolution specifically, its just the way the
specification is written (and implemented by Gmail). IMAP supports what

is some To, and was happy. The mentioned bug really covers slightly
more, but the issue with Post To had been fixed together.

I'm pushing the relevant part to 2.28, which will be part of 2.28.3+
(there was a release of 2.28.2 yesterday, unfortunately).

Usually, you find what version you're using in the Help menu. Look for
something like About Evolution... or About..., About this
program, in the help menu.

Hope you this help

 Hi guys,

here is some feedback to version 2.26 running under ubuntu.

First, I encountered a couple of very annoying bugs: (No, I don't want
 to engage in Bugzilla; sorry.)

 * In the calender view, where tasks and memos appear on the right, the
memo list is empty, though there are memos listed in the memo view.

 * Evolution crashes (!) each time I edit a previously created
appointment to make it an recurring event. So if I forgot to specify
that at the time of creation, I have to delete it first, and create it
again, making sure I edit the recurrence information before closing the
 formular.

 * If I start the computer from hibernating (having Evolution started
before hibernating), I'm prompted for the password for one of my two
mail accounts -- without effect (endless loop); so I have to cancel.
This does not happen, if I shutdown the computer, and start Evolution as
usual. (That problem seemed to be linked with using ubuntu; but why does
it work for the other account!?)

There are other suggestions which are not bugs, but they shall not
 concern us here.

I could live with the bugs above for some time, but: Today I started
Evolution, and ALL calendar, task and memo entries were gone! The
according lists to file them are still here, but no items. In other
words, without doing anything, all information is gone and I have no
 clue why.

I enjoyed using evolution more and more since I started using it a
couple of months ago and so I managed to live with the mentioned bugs
 which were indeed annoying.

But I cannot possibly use a software that deletes stored information, or
stores it in such a way that it cannot be retrieved.

Well, I might go now browse ~/.evolution and see whether I can do
anything about, but hey, I wanna USE this software and not hack it.

Hope that helps looking forward to a (much) more mature version,
 Harald

Well, I have a 2.22 and I don't have this bugs. The memo bug (there's a
list of memos but doesn't appear in calendar view) I do have it but I
don't find it annoying, just surprising. May be is a problem of the
Ubuntu version? Or may be is an upper but more buggered version :-)

Another question: It has to be the same count, calendar and e-mail? In

from a count and calendar froma another.

   Hi,
go to Calendars, there File-New-Calendar, choose type Google. Similar
for Weather calendars. It's independent from your mail account(s).
Note the functionality of a Google calendar varies in 2.26 and 2.28
(later is using CalDav internally, which is better for some things).
With a weather calendar, it depends on your location, how far the
forecast is showing. It's up to a week, as far as I know.
   Bye,

How can I configure Evolution so that it *always* encrypts to the GPG

It's easy to see how to set it always to sign with GPG and/or SMIME and
 always to encrypt SMIME mail.

Is there a solution, perhaps incorporating some third-party add-on or
some scripting? Alternatively, should this issue be raised as a
 request-for-enhancement?

Hum! Evolution 2.12 is a little bit older. In Evo 2.22 you choose

words in the menu are not exactly in that way but this is it. I'm using

Hi Alf!
Sorry, but after a big search I couldn't find any addressbook

But no, by now there's no way to set global preferences for
addressbook.

It could be a good issue to improve in next versions.

 Hi all,

How to edit the address book settings?

After years of using webmail I wanted to try Evolution. Running 2.22.3.1

So far I mostly like it. My main trouble is finding how to change
default settings in the address book. By default it's displaying my
contacts as Lastname, Firstname. I want all contacts to display the full
 name (Firstname Lastname).

So far it seems the only way to achieve this is to manually edit each
and every contact. I believe there must be a way to tell evolution that
full name should be the default, but after lenghty searching (including
the mail list archives), I'm still stuck and will greatly appreciate any
 help.
