Odd SMTP failure

Environment is Exchange 5.5sp4 We have a distribution list that also has an SMTP address. I send a message from outside the network to the SMTP address it reaches all recipients. If I connect directly to our bridgehead server and send a message to the SMTP address, it reaches all recipients.
