Is it possible to change a users' LegacyExchangeDN? Specifically, the
surname.

I'm not confused; I need to change the LegacyExchangeDN value. I know
this because I've done a directory export and verified it. I was just
refering to the surname portion of alias that happens to be incorrect in
my situation.

To change just one user's LegacyExchangeDN - just use ADSIEdit. However
there is no special area of LegacyExchangeDN that is responsible for
surname, so I think you are a bit confused about what you want to
change. LegacyExchangeDN is based on the mailbox nickname (alias).

I am restoring a database to an offline Exch2k SP3 server. I have
changed all the legacyexchangedn values and have all other names
correct. The IS fails to start and I receive this I have no AV
software or anything on this server. I have checked all of Q articles
and google. Any help

Here's the deal.. I only had a priv.edb from a corrupted database
backup. I ran eseutil /P and created a new .stm file as well. It ran
fine
I don't believe there is a Restore in Progress key entry for Exchange
2000.

ADSI EDIT from Microsoft is probably the easiest to learn but any other ldap
query program will work.

What I did was on my recovery server I ran forest prep then installed
ONLY the exchange sys admin. You can then go into it and install your
appropriate admin group that matches you prod net. It's easier than
changing all those exchangelegacydn's
