We had a similar problem. I don't recall what version of Outlook and I don't have an outlook 2000 client to test with. I don't even recall if this option exists in OL2000 but if it does, turn it off. Look in Toolsoptionsother and see if the checkbox is checked that says Enable Instant Messaging

We see this problem every once in a while in Outlook 2K, and in our case it's nearly always caused by a bloated outcmd.dat file. This file holds toolbar and menubar customizations and is usually no more than 10k in size. Sometimes though it balloons to as much as a 1 MB in size and does awful

Lots of questions... 1) What's your infrastructure? WAN? LAN? 2) How's your utilization? LAN traffic? Server overburdened? 3) Using a client-side anti-virus software? 4) Anything special about those client machines? Problem happens on OL97 and OL2K or just one or the other? -Ben- Ben M.
