RE: mailbox causes Outlook to freeze

2001-10-05 Thread Kirsten . Petersen

Guess I should clarify a bit. This problem is happening on different
machines, so it has nothing to do with her profile or with a PST. I can
create a new profile on a computer that she has never used, setting it up
for her mailbox. Then, when I open Outlook as her, glack!

Can anyone think of a reason that a mailbox could cause Outlook to freeze
up? We're using Exchange 5.5 SP4, and the client is Outlook 2000. If I add
the user's mailbox to my profile, I can open it up fine. When I create a
new profile with the user's mailbox as the primary, and then open Outlook,
Outlook freezes up. It opens the mailbox and I can see the mail, but
Outlook no longer responds.

This was reported to me by the user's support folks, and they tried it on
two different machines. I tried it on my workstation as well with the same
results. Nothing about the mailbox looks strange. It only has about 11
Megs of data. Permissions settings look correct. I would just say let's
try recreating the mailbox but the user is at a remote location, so that
might be difficult to arrange with her.

If anyone has any insights, I would love to hear them. This is about the
sixty-thousandth wierd problem I have had today and my brain has turned to
jelly.

Thanks,
-Kirsten

RE: mailbox causes Outlook to freeze

2001-10-05 Thread Drewski

If you can open it up yourself, I'd do that, export it all to PST, blow the
mailbox away, recreate and put the info back into the new mailbox. You
should be able to do that without too much problems for her -- other than
being without her mailbox for a while.

RE: mailbox causes Outlook to freeze

2001-10-05 Thread Soysal, Serdar

If that's not it, try opening the user's mailbox using an Exchange client.
If it loads successfully, you may have some sort of corruption in her tasks
or calendar folder. If that's the case, you may want to:

1. Attempt starting Outlook with the /cleanreminders switch. If that
doesn't help proceed to step 2.
2. ExMerge her calendar out with the archive option
3. Open the mailbox with Exchange client again, and delete the calendar
folder.
4. Start outlook with the /resetfolders switch.

If that works, you'll have to weed through the exported appointments to see
which one's causing the problem.

RE: mailbox causes Outlook to freeze

2001-10-05 Thread MS Exchange List

Hello,

Here are some Q articles I've come across for similar problems, and in
general some other things to try:

-Change the default View to something else. A view, default view, may be
causing the problem.

-Can you view it through OWA?

-There's a CDO patch post SP4 that might help.

-Search the archives for outlook hang , you're not the first to encounter
this in the last couple months.

RE: mailbox causes Outlook to freeze

2001-10-05 Thread Herrick, Michael

Ensure the client is off line. Then use ExAdmin to move the mailbox to
another server in the site. Have the user start Outlook. It will find the
new home server automagically. I have seen moving a mailbox clean up
otherwise unsolveable weirdness.

Thanks all for the suggestions. Thought you'd like to know that we tried
opening the mailbox with Outlook XP. A box popped up saying that it was
applying rules, and after about 30 seconds, the mailbox opened normally. We
then tried opening the mailbox in Outlook 2000 again and voila! - it worked
like a champ. So, I'm guessing that something was goofy with her Rules. I
will definitely file away your other good suggestions for future wierd
