While MDK 9.2 might have been the first distribution to get its name in
the news for destroying CD-ROMs, I saw a posting on the Gentoo website
this evening that someone killed their LG CD-ROM by installing Gentoo.
Of course that doesn't help the bad press that Mandrake has had.

I guess the real question is, will the average person who is contemplating
trying out Linux going to have heard/going to remember that Mandrake kills
your CD drive, or the actual details of the problem. All too often it is
the misinformation that matters.

BUT it took 3 installs to do it,
first bombed out
Turbolinux is supposed to be the/a leading distribution in Asia.
