Subject: Mother Divine update

Dear Ladies,

Here is the next installment on the wonderful progress
welcoming Mother Divine!

Thanks to all of you, the campus is being prepared,
the boxes moved, the buildings readied.
There are still several more days of work on that
process, so please keep coming out to help!

Sweets, Treats, and Flowers

Phase I:
Saturday morning, January 28, 10:00 AM,
Rukmapura Park Hotel

we will begin assembling goodie baskets.
On this day we will focus on the dried fruits, nuts, etc.
Please wait until Tuesday to bring the baked goods!

Phase II:
Tuesday morning, January 31, 9:30 AM
Mother Divine Campus, Building 11A

we will continue assembling the goodie baskets,
and prepare the flowers, hang welcome signs, etc.
Please bring cookies, sweets, and baked goods that
you have offered to make at this time!

Thanks to all of you, we've raised enough money
for our fruits and flowers. But we'd like to include
a few more items in the goodie baskets: MAPI products.

If you would like to make a donation so that
our dear Mother Divine ladies can enjoy Vata Tea
and other delights, please bring donations to the
Maharishi Enlightenment Center of Fairfield,
in the northeast corner of the Dreier Building,
MUM Campus, first floor, by Monday, January 30, at noon.

Please slip your donations under the door if no one is there.

With heartfelt thanks to everyone,

Jai Guru Dev

Mother Divine Welcome Committee

Yes, but some people come to the spiritual path
*in search of* bigger and better chains. They
flit from conceptual model to conceptual model,
from certainty to certainty, from one excuse
for why they're not enlightened yet to the next
excuse for why they're not enlightened yet. In
truth, what they're searching FOR is the next
excuse, the next set of chains. As long as they
can convince themselves that they're working on
dissolving the chains, that there is something
that they *have* to work on, they're happy.
That's a familiar and no-risk situation. What
would be risky is to drop the chains and be free.

[FairfieldLife] Re: TM bonds -- Now Nutcases

2006-01-28 Thread Jason Spock

Home » AmericasSexual harassment affects a third of US college students 1/25/2006 1:17:00 PM New York, Jan 25 (IANS) Nearly two-thirds of college students in American campuses - where Indians account for the largest number of foreign admissions - have experienced sexual harassment, ranging from receiving pornography via
e-mail to groping, says a new study. A whopping 41 percent of those surveyed admitted to sexually harassing other students, and a common reason was that they thought it was 'funny'. The American Association of University Women Tuesday said most college students experienced non-contact forms of harassment -- jokes, gestures or offensive remarks. But a third were physically intimidated -- with abuse ranging from being touched inappropriately to being forced to perform sexual favours. 'Drawing the Line: Sexual Harassment On Campus', a representative survey of 2,036 undergraduates in US colleges and universities, was based on confidential interviews with students, some of whom reported instances of being whistled at or catcalled on campus grounds, while others
spoke of members of the opposite sex flashing at them, people spreading rumours about their sex life and in one case strewing condoms in a dorm room. Men and women are equally prone to harassment. But the impact on women is different. 'Female students are more likely to take measures to avoid their harasser (48 percent versus 26 percent), to stay away from particular buildings or places on campus (27 percent versus 11 percent), to find it hard to study or pay attention in class...,' says Elena Silva, director of research at the institute. Foreign students, who are often not aware of the cultural norms of this country, may have a particularly rough time dealing with harassment on campus. At
present, India accounts for the largest number of foreign undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in American universities - 80,000, according to the New York-based Institute of International Education. Though several colleges hold orientation sessions for foreign students that explain the norms of dating and tell students about help-lines to report sexual harassment, many students find they prefer to ignore the incident or resolve issues themselves instead of taking the problem to campus officials. Surabhi Tomar, a 2005 graduate from the New Jersey Institute of Technology, recalls one particular incident of sexual harassment during her freshman year. 'I was the only woman on the night shift with about eight guys. In a sort of 'guy's party mood,' they started
out by making sexual jokes and then proceeded to ask me inappropriate questions such as 'Have you ever showered naked with a guy?'' she recalls. But once she told them she was uncomfortable with the conversation, they stopped. And she didn't report it. But not all students are able to respond to harassment the way Surabhi did. Some of those surveyed said it made them lose their confidence and ruined their college experience. Sexual harassment is not confined to any single place on campus, Silva said in a press statement. More than a third of students harassed are targeted in the dorms or student housing, while a third face intimidation on campus grounds. And lest you believe lecture halls are a place of sexual sanctuary, a fifth of students reported harassment there. Compared to India especially, American universities have a sizeable population of openly gay and lesbian students. The research found they were more vulnerable to harassment than heterosexual students -- 71 percent to 63 percent -- and were also more likely to be embarrassed, angry, afraid and disappointed in their college experience because of it. One way to mitigate the problem may be to make the reporting experience easier for those harassed. Over half the students surveyed -- 57 percent -- said they would like their college or university to offer a web-based confidential method for reporting sexual harassment.bbrigante [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Date: Fri, 27 Jan 2006 22:32:47 -Subject: [FairfieldLife] Re: TM bonds -- Now

However, since MUM is required to report incidents on its web site ( http://www.mum.edu/safety/bulletin ), it was an embarrassment to the school

Scientists have found out that UnRefined wheat flour is good far superior to health than Refined flour. UnRefined flour releases it's sugars very slowly into the blood-stream. Refined flour is dangerous because it releases it sugars very fast into the body, which causes the sugar levels to spike up and down rapidly. Doctors call the sugar, Sucrose, "The White death".!!. It directly converts itself into fat. bbrigante [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Date: Sat, 28 Jan 2006 04:41:54 -Subject: [FairfieldLife] Re: Chubby scorpions

If you're auditioning for a key role in
one of the Exorcist films, it could be
considered something good is happening. :-)

 Dear Ladies,

Here is the next installment on the wonderful progress
 welcoming Mother Divine!

Thanks to all of you, the campus is being prepared,
the boxes moved, the buildings readied.
There are still several more days of work on that
process, so please keep coming out to help!

 Sweets, Treats, and Flowers

 Phase I:
Saturday morning, January 28, 10:00 AM,
 Rukmapura Park Hotel

we will begin assembling goodie baskets.
On this day we will focus on the dried fruits, nuts, etc.
Please wait until Tuesday to bring the baked goods!

 Phase II:
Tuesday morning, January 31, 9:30 AM
 Mother Divine Campus, Building 11A

we will continue assembling the goodie baskets,
and prepare the flowers, hang welcome signs, etc.
Please bring cookies, sweets, and baked goods that
you have offered to make at this time!

Thanks to all of you, we've raised enough money
for our fruits and flowers. But we'd like to include
a few more items in the goodie baskets: MAPI products.

If you would like to make a donation so that
our dear Mother Divine ladies can enjoy Vata Tea
 and other delights,

How abou a nice jar of Vata Churna for $16.00 ($20.00 with shipping
and handling)? Of course, there is only about 80 cents -- retail --
worth of spices in there but, hey, the markup will keep SOMEONE up
to their nose in fragrant flowers...

 please bring donations to the
 Maharishi Enlightenment Center of Fairfield,
in the northeast corner of the Dreier Building,
MUM Campus, first floor, by Monday, January 30, at noon.

Please slip your donations under the door if no one is there.

 With heartfelt thanks to everyone,

These are the same people who were told when they started TM that
all they had to do was do TM for 20 minutes twice a day and then go
out into activity and act according to the dictates of common sense
and their own traditions.

Now, there's a dictate from the TMO for every aspect of the relative
field of activity: what direction to face; what foods to eat (and
where, of course, to buy them!); what type of building to live,
sleep, meditate and work in; be guided by astrology and certain
vedic rituals to ward off negativity (and pay through the nose for
it); and have your health treated by Ayur-Veda and Vedic Vibration.

Is there an aspect of the relative which is NOT covered by some TM
program?

Is this not the OPPOSITE of the TM Program as taught back in
the '70s? I mean the total and complete opposite?

These suckers will believe anything.

To all well wishers Its a very good explanation. But for the majorityis good to be explainedthat one way to find the earth's precession "" Sanskrit is called Ayanamsha"" isfoundin the changeof the earth's axis. And direction of thisaxis is called true northwhichalso could becalculated through magnetic north. There are good information on this subject using Isogonic's map. I suggest to all to check sites on Isogonic's map which broadens the knowledge on SthapatyaVed - Magnetic North and True North. bbrigante [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: --- In FairfieldLife@yahoogroups.com, m2smart4u2000 [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: If we are building our houses according to Stapatya veda, and they are

If we rebuild the world, we are gonna have to rebuild it again in 10 years.**The declination (meaning magnetic declination) means the difference between true north and magnetic north, and magnetic north moves, but magnetic north is not used in Sthapathya Veda, only true north:"Change of declination in time and space:Magnetic declination varies both from place to place, and with the passage of time.In most areas, the spatial variation reflects the irregularities of the flows deep in the earth; in some areas, deposits of iron ore or magnetite in the earth's crust may contribute strongly to the declination. The
time variation reflects changes in the deep flows: a flow becoming stronger or weaker, changing direction, or shifting its location. In each case, such a change is likely to contribute to a shift in the location of at least one of the magnetic poles, unless its effect on that pole is cancelled by the effect of a change in another part of the earth's interior."http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnetic_declination YAHOO! Precession will affect true east, as it is determined in Maharishi vastu and other forms of holistic architecture. [FairfieldLife] MOU Vedic/Hindu Celebration Animations

2006-01-28 Thread Marek Reavis
You can see new animations for selected celebration days in January
and February (2006) at

http://calendars.globalgoodnews.com/vedic/01.html

for January and com/vedic/02.html for February. You can't
download animations for any of the other months yet.

Presuming that these animations are designed wholly in accordance with
Maharishi's specifications or inspired by his suggestions in large
part -- most certainly approved by him at the very least -- they're an
interesting insight into his cosmoslogy.

The January 12 celebration day has some nice snippets from the film of
Guru Dev.

How long will this take before it becomes a significant issue? I
believe that perfect vastu is defined as being within a few degrees of
true east, so how long before the procession takes you from 0 degrees
off to, say, 5 degrees off? The expected life of the facility is
probably measured in decades, while the change in orientation to the
point of no longer being perfect vastu is probably measured in
centuries.

This isn't that tough a question. Think it through...
it will become a significant issue the minute Maharishi

[FairfieldLife] Re: Why is MMY no longer seen live in the weekly press confer...

2006-01-28 Thread peterklutz

After posting I received this suggestion in my email..

Hi Peter,

I was there in vlodrop in august, and they always where
bringing in that older foto, when
mmy was there via audio.
I once asked some higher up TMO, how old the foto was, and didn`t
get an answer.
I was actually there as an journalist, even got an interview with
Hagelin.

So my opinion was, that mmy is lying in bed, having head-set on, and
talking always to us, when he feels like.

On one occasion, we also heard the sound of him pissing, while
talking to us.
He must have assumed, that that sound would not be heard.

So the tm-technicians where in some kind of real trouble.
keep the line, to get the immortal words from the master ?
Or keep his dignitiy, and cut the connection ?

So from the sound of his voice, he is still very nice, soft
and broad minded.

From his body, maybe no more that concincing.

Since I have no access to the Fairfield group, you can post this
answer, if you like.

cheers from Hamburg.

diap.

[FairfieldLife] Annoying someone via the internet is now a federal crime

2006-01-28 Thread Michael Dean Goodman
Dear Fairfield Lifers,

For the well-being and continuity of our group, I post the
following information, from today's New York Times news reports:

Annoying someone via the internet is now a federal crime.

Last Thursday, President Bush signed into law a prohibition on post-
ing annoying web messages or sending annoying e-mail messages with-
out disclosing your true identity.

In other words, it's OK to flame someone on a mailing list or in a
blog as long as you do it under your real name.

This prohibition is included in the Violence Against Women and De-
partment of Justice Reauthorization Act. Criminal penalties include
stiff fines and two years in prison.

Buried deep in the new law is Sec. 113, a subsection called Prevent-
ing Cyberstalking. It rewrites existing telephone harassment law to
prohibit anyone from using the Internet without disclosing his iden-
tity and with intent to annoy.

Here's the relevant language:

Whoever...utilizes any device or software that can be used to ori-
ginate telecommunications or other types of communications that are
transmitted, in whole or in part, by the internet... without disclos-
ing his identity and with intent to annoy, abuse, threaten, or harass
any person...who receives the communications...shall be fined under
Title 18 or imprisoned not more than two years, or both.

My commentary:

Since the law uses the vague word annoy, along with the stronger lan-
guage (threaten, harass, abuse), the result for a discussion group
such as ours may be:

1. You CAN discuss someone's ideas anonymously.

2. BUT you must reveal your true identity if you push the argument
very far, if you are perceived as arguing, to where the other
person could get annoyed with you - whether for your perceived
resistance, your differing point of view, etc.

3. And you must certainly reveal your true identity if you move
from debating his content (his ideas) to making any disparaging
or even merely uninvited comments about the person himself - in-
cluding comments about his motives, state of mind, character,
believability, qualifications, etc. - any of which could easily
be predicted to be annoying to someone expecting polite discus-
sion of his ideas only, and some of which may move beyond annoy-
ing and into the realm of threatening or harassing.

The bottom line: by virtue of this new Federal law, we must each either
stop posting anything that could be reasonably expected to be annoying
to another, or continue posting these things but do it under our true
names (rather than anonymously). And the standard is low; it doesn't
take much to annoy someone. Probably a great majority of the posts
on our group would be considered annoying to someone that they were
directed toward.

The solution is simple: stop posting anonymously unless you put on kid
gloves.

Since I always post using my real name, this really doesn't affect
me, but there are many anonymous or pseudo-named posters on this
list, and often the posts get very contentious and many people's
feelings get annoyed and beyond. ;)

Since Yahoo is committed to preventing illegal behavior in its groups,
according to a number of sections of Yahoo's Terms of Service (that
we agreed to when joining up), Yahoo would have to discipline any in-
dividual poster (or group) that doesn't abide by this new Federal law -
anyone who posts potentially annoying posts anonymously or using a
screen name or pseudo-name. Yahoo would have to remove from its service
an individual who was reported to them as persisting in violating the
law. And a group like ours, if its leadership didn't self-police the
group by requiring posters who could possibly be perceived as annoying
anyone to post under their true names, would run the risk of being
deleted by Yahoo without warning, should Yahoo get some complaints.
From our past history, we can almost certainly count on Yahoo getting
complaints arising from our disgruntled or offended members using this
new Federal law.

Although I, and many freedom-of-speech advocates, think the language
of this law is way too vague and over-reaching - it IS the current
Federal law - and Yahoo pledges to uphold the law.

Hope this info is of service.

Namaste,

Michael

 That's a familiar and no-risk situation. What

[FairfieldLife] Re: Annoying someone via the internet is now a federal crime

2006-01-28 Thread TurquoiseB
Wow. A whole law, just to deal with Akashanon. That's
some kinda fame... :-)

--- In FairfieldLife@yahoogroups.com, Michael Dean Goodman
[EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

 Dear Fairfield Lifers,

For the well-being and continuity of our group, I post the
following information, from today's New York Times news reports:

Annoying someone via the internet is now a federal crime.

Last Thursday, President Bush signed into law a prohibition on
post-
ing annoying web messages or sending annoying e-mail messages with-
 out disclosing your true identity.

In other words, it's OK to flame someone on a mailing list or in a
blog as long as you do it under your real name.

This prohibition is included in the Violence Against Women and De-
partment of Justice Reauthorization Act. Criminal penalties
include
stiff fines and two years in prison.

Buried deep in the new law is Sec. 113, a subsection
called Prevent-
ing Cyberstalking. It rewrites existing telephone harassment law
to
prohibit anyone from using the Internet without disclosing his
iden-
tity and with intent to annoy.

 Here's the relevant language:

Whoever...utilizes any device or software that can be used to ori-
ginate telecommunications or other types of communications that are
transmitted, in whole or in part, by the internet... without
disclos-
ing his identity and with intent to annoy, abuse, threaten, or
harass
any person...who receives the communications...shall be fined under
Title 18 or imprisoned not more than two years, or both.

 My commentary:

Since the law uses the vague word annoy, along with the stronger
lan-
guage (threaten, harass, abuse), the result for a discussion
group
 such as ours may be:

 1. You CAN discuss someone's ideas anonymously.

 2. BUT you must reveal your true identity if you push the argument
very far, if you are perceived as arguing, to where the other
person could get annoyed with you - whether for your
perceived
resistance, your differing point of view, etc.

 3. And you must certainly reveal your true identity if you move
from debating his content (his ideas) to making any disparaging
or even merely uninvited comments about the person himself -
in-
cluding comments about his motives, state of mind, character,
believability, qualifications, etc. - any of which could easily
be predicted to be annoying to someone expecting polite
discus-
sion of his ideas only, and some of which may move
beyond annoy-
ing and into the realm of threatening or harassing.
