‘Issues Management’ A fair example for TM: “..But in this kind of a situation, there's a saying in our business. The three F's are involved - fowl up, 'fess up, fix up. And I think that the fowl up stage is pretty clear. And now it's time to 'fess up and now fix up. KELLY: So it sounds like if you were on this account, part of your strategy would be looking forward. Look at what's past as past. GRABOWSKI: Absolutely. KELLY: We're headed to the future. GRABOWSKI: There's always an apology involved. We're sorry we did this. It was a mistake. But then you move forward. You don't dwell on the mistake. KELLY: OK. So flush this out a little bit for me - how a good publicist goes about spinning this, particularly in a case like this, where, as we've said, Russia isn't denying that its athletes doped. The facts are out there. Where do you go next? GRABOWSKI: Well, see I - and I would take issue with the term spinning in this particular case because I think there's an acknowledgment that some mischief - some malfeasance occurred. They're explaining what they have been doing and what they're doing to correct it. And I think that that's where, you know, credibility's going to be tested. And then they have to look forward. You can trust us. We have learned our lesson. We're moving forward. It's classic. FFL, thanks for the condolences. They have come from around the FFL world. Gertie came to meditation later in her life. She was a life long social activist whose admonition to her spiritual practitioner children was, “..why can’t you just be good Democrats?” But she learned to meditate and then met Ammachi and the two changed her spiritual life. She moved to meditating Fairfield late in life and was a contributing member to communal Fairfield bringing her bright good light everywhere she went. Family and friends have cremated her body. There is a memorial service this weekend. I am working up this song to sing with a harmony group of transcendental meditationists here in Fairfield, Iowa at the memorial tomorrow: Holly Springs There is a house not made with hands, Eternal, and on high; And here my spirit, waiting stands, Till God shall bid it fly. Chorus: I long to see my friends again And hear them sweetly say; Come, weary dove, here is thy home, Then fold thy wings and stay. Shortly this prison of my clay Must be dissolved and fall; Then, Oh my soul, with joy obey Thy heav’nly Father’s call. (Chorus) I long to see my friends again And hear them sweetly say; Come, weary dove, here is thy home, Then fold thy wings and stay. -Isaac Watts 1709 // Dear Ones My precious mother[in-law], Gertie has passed into the Life Eternal. Sweetly, and without any struggle at about 4:50am this morning. Thank you for your prayers and best wishes. I know she left on a tsunami of Love! Love and all blessings, Ah, that final release. When my father died at home from esophageal cancer and he had made the decision to have his feeding tube removed it took about three days for him to die. Eventually he went into a coma (a combination of starvation and opiates) and quite soon after that, died. But his body did continue to function up to that point, as if its great mission was to keep the cells fed with oxygen so that the heart could keep pumping and thus the machine would keep working. I think it would be so much better if we could simply put our attention on the body ceasing its labors and we could stop the machine and simply move on to whatever might, or might not, come next. ..Remember, our mortal state; How frail our lives! how short the date! [FairfieldLife] Re: Change of Leadership
FW: His letter sounded to me like a sincere attempt to make a gentile transition. The BOT was definitely involved, and it's SOP for the executive committee of a Board of Trustees to make decisions regarding senior personnel. Most of the Board, in most universities, have little to do with managing the institution, and are present mainly for their social status, their own financial support, or their ability to raise money. This kind of thing (selection process for key people) is rarely practical with a full board of 34 people, most of whom are far from Fairfield, although I'm sure they will all vote on it in June. ---In FairfieldLife@yahoogroups.com,wrote : FW: Bevan's letter makes it quite clear that he is technically nominating John as President, and that he is confident the Board will confirm that nomination. [FairfieldLife] Re: MUM Student Petition
Two different aims and outlooks - One is for the welfare of the university, an institution attempting consciousness-based education. The other is to limit conscious options, a very different objective, borne wholly of stress and fear. The latter could be focused on peanut butter - the object doesn't matter so much as achieving the objective, creating a smaller world for a little mind. ---In FairfieldLife@yahoogroups.com,wrote : Someone studying on campus comments about the student petition separately by e-mail.. I know most of the students posting and they are really wonderful people- the university's better offsprings. So, I am encouraged that this petition seems to be rooted in positivity and good will. This reform work within the meditating community and at the University is consequentially different than what space some anti-TM blogs and forum may occupy otherwise out on the internet. Ollie observes: There seems to have evolved a permanent class of those whose time is spent uselessly complaining about all things TM, Maharishi, and MUM. Judging by the noted absence of such signatures on the petition, I'd say efforts like this to move towards improvement are probably the last thing the malcontents want to see. I have been in committees with Craig the last couple of years and Craig is in a very difficult place between personalities that he has to report too. He actually is one of the people hoping to have it all work out in a good way. As the chief administrator, an academic, and old TM teacher, and a parent himself he is quite incredible at the high wire balance needed. It would be a shame to see him fall from this. What he really needs is the authority from the Trustees to facilitate what is needed to rectify real problems. The place needs a 24/7 university president who is present to listening to the problems and working with people instead of against them. The Trustees need to fix that.
