Well, you where there personally so I obvously believe your version.
Not Ingegerd's distortions.

I misunderstood. I thought you were disputing my statement that most of them stopped meditating.

Per M. Flem I suppose. Correct me if I am wrong. He sold his company
at a rather good price, but for less than he could have got if he
spent more time selling. He just wanted to get out.
Call him if you like. As usual you are just spreading ill-founded
rumours.

Did anyone ever discover why so many stopped so soon?

John Gray told me they were a lot more fascinated with their little earphone than with their mantra. Thousands came just out of curiosity.

What happened in Nepal. As I heard many years ago - The TMO tried to

I never heard of the TMO being thrown out. I was in the group (everybody at International at the time) helping to prepare for the Nepal trip. Maharishi initiated thousands with an earphone system. But almost everyone stopped meditating after a few days.

At least he did not move the business to an MSV
building, cause then he surely would have lost twice
as much.

Living Rosary 2005

To commemorate the ouster of the Maharishi from the University now 21
years ago, students and faculty formed an annual living Rosary to
remember and give thanks to God for redeeming the university from
being taken over by a group of monks that promotes transcendental
meditation and the philosophy of perpetuating life in accordance with
natural law. Pamphlets were distributed through the Deans to inform
and explain to the students and the whole UE constituency the history
of those gloomy days and the significance of reminiscing it. Students
and members of the academic community participated in the rosary
which is a living testimony of our undying faith in God.

Our prayers included thanking and imploring our good Lord to continue
its blessings and guidance especially to the university authorities
in fulfilling the goals of our beloved university.

Or, you could simply make TM available for free and
promote the hell out of it, maybe give tax breaks or
other perks to those who learn it. Maybe even *pay*
them to learn.

I would also think that unless someone asks -- freely -- from their
own side to be initiated it would be a very negative experience.

Or, was sucking up to a dictator in the hopes that some good would come of it...

Right. In keeping with the fundamental TMO principle that the end justifies the means.

Yowzer! What a bizzaro scenario! So how did it all turn out?

The movement ended up buying or trying to buy a big university in Manila called “The University of the East” - http://online.ue.edu.ph/manila/

The students weren’t told this was happening, but we stayed up late the night before it was to be announced, with Maharishi planning a festive welcome for them involving banners, colored lights, etc. When they got there, they freaked out. We were barricaded in our hotel for a month with angry mobs marching in the street below and banner headlines in the newspaper every day. The university still commemorates Maharishi’s ouster:
http://online.ue.edu.ph/manila/religious.htm

Were
there alot of initiations?

A fair number but not huge. Ads were placed for a TTC. I never read the ads but apparently they weren’t too clear, as many showed up who didn’t know what they were getting into. They thought it was some sort of technical training that would lead to a good job. Most were initiated into TM when they arrived a the TTC. Many left, but many who stayed ended up becoming teachers. A few are still active. I made some good friends there.

How long did you stay in the Philipinnes?

9 months.

(The only thing that could remind me of is Nazi Germany, is that what
you meant?)

Yes.

Obviously. Seems as though MMY learned from that if he didn't know already. By
the time
Forokh Anklesaria taught in Senegal, they worked REAL hard to make sure all the
inmates
were interested in learning.

I was there too. Left the country three days before the Shah did. It was fun standing on the roof of our hotel watching the banks, movie theatres, and liquor stores burn.

Spare Egg: didn't you recently, in response to someone's posting,
ask the question: what about karma?

Do you honestly think there is good karma attached to FORCING
someone to meditate?

Did you ever try to teach people who really didn’t want to learn? I did some of that in the Philippines. It was horrible and a waste of time.
